Hello, Could anyone please direct me to a site/place that gives details of past OBE awards - the people and the reasons.
I would like to have more information on a great uncle, W.R. Quinn (died March 1926) who was given the award for rescuing girls from a burning shell filling factory at ?Rugby during the Great War.
Many thanks. Diana

Hi
22 Nov 1918 Coventry Standard
Under heading Order of the British Empire, (a list of several awards)
"William R Quinn, 75,Manor Road,Rugby. For courage and high example in subduing a fire in a filling factory. He assisted in saving life and plant in spite of being badly gassed."
A different piece says he and several other munitions workers were presented their OBE s outside County Hall, Warwick by Lord Leigh.

Thank you very much chempat and cath151. Very interesting information to add to our knowledge and appreciation of our ancestor. Diana

BTW chempat, I tried the Gazette, but it/they would not accept my postal code as being true! (Also, they want an awful lot of personal information.) Diana (in Canada)

Diana,
Could you not have invented the personal information?

Moi? :) Well, I actually filled in all in properly, but it still wouldn't accept my post code.
