We have a mystery in my husband's family. Not much info is known of his grandfather's history and I'm hoping someone out there can help.
We have JAMES CORBETT m Eliza Anne O'Keefe nee Whyte, 1924 in NSW
JAMES parents were JOHN CORBETT and MARY FINN.
JAMES was born around 1881 in Melbourne, Victoria (according to dates on James' marriage and death certs.)
James didn't seem to keep in contact with any of his family. There was mention that he had been in the goldfields or diggings somewhere. I can't find his birth, or marriage of his parents Mary Finn and John. It is also said that his mother Mary had died and John had remarried.
I would be grateful of any help with this
Thankyou

Many thanks Sue. Will do more searching on Trove using Margaret's name and see if I can find something before I continue with Vic BD&M

Information from the indexes would be far more reliable than on TROVE.

Speculation:
It's possible that Margaret CORBETT lost both babies - the places fit with the births Sue found.
Victoria 1883 #10492
John CORBETT
DEATH PLACE: Carlton, Victoria
Mother: Margaret CORBETT
There is also this death - perhaps the age should read 3 months Edit to add - yes - already noted by Cando

ADDING
Maybe you could tell us some more details about James from the marriage certificate.
His occupation at marriage and his usual address, his father's occupation.....
Small things sometimes help.

I agree that indexes are much more reliable than Trove but was hoping to find a death or funeral notice which could be a bit useful....but nothing standing out.
Working backwards, I have JAMES CORBETT, who was a sawmill employee and died in 1953, aged 72.
He died in Moss Vale NSW but was born in Melbourne, Vic.
He married a widow named Eliza Anne O'Keefe (nee Whyte) in 1924 in Moss Vale. JAMES was 43 when he married and hadn't been married before. At this time he was a Theatre Manager.
On both his marriage cert and death cert MARY FINN and JOHN CORBETT are named as his parents. They are both said to be deceased on his marriage cert in 1924.
JOHN CORBETT is said to be a builder on James' marriage and death certs.
James was estranged from his family so I have nothing to go on but what is on the certs that I have. When my mother-in-law was alive, she told me that her father, JAMES, didn't get on with JOHN's new family. The little info I have is very vague as he didn't share his past.
Thankyou for your help with this

Coming in a bit late to this party but just for interests sake, I have Corbetts in my tree in the Ballarat area but I they don't seem to match up with yours ... (?)
James Corbett b.1818; Ireland m. 1846 in Geelong to Ellen Croak.
They had 9 children, mostly born in Geelong & Creswick (outside of Ballarat) including John b. 1853, however he married Catherine Annie Wood and had 12 children (with no James').
However, James Corbett b.1818 immigrated to Australia with his 2 brothers, David (who had a son John b. 1839, I'm unsure who he married) & John (and their wives), their progeny is extensive with a very many Davids, James & Johns so chances are, we are related!

Thankyou Bellejaz for the clue. I'm very time poor at the moment but when I get a chance am going to the church office (where James and Eliza were married) to see if I can view their marriage record. Maybe a little snippet of info there.
My husband's Corbett rels have carried the names of John, James, Thomas and Patrick.
