Hi, this is a picture of a raiding party of the 1/8th (irish ) Kings Liverpool regiment. There is some speculation that the gentleman front right wearing a woolly hat could be my grandfather. Can anyone determine the rank of this chap?

I would not like to meet any of that lot on a dark night. Lanyard on the neck may mean an officer. Statically he would be a Second Lieutenant. Is that a revolver another member is holding near your person's right ear?

Hi, I have to agree with barryd, He looks to be a officer of some sort, lanyard around neck most probably for his revolver, that and the "Cut" of his jacket and wearing a tie.
Regards
Frank.
ADDED: He looks to have a single "Pip" on his shoulder. (Second Lieutenant)

Thanks guys,
Well that ties in as he was a Second Leiutenant. This is a confirmed picture of him when he was wounded but the uniform looks different. Any thoughts?

Have you looked in their War Diary for the Raid. Majority of these diaries name Officers involvement in raids/attacks etc. You might strike lucky. Onlt about 3 quid.
