Greetings!
My great-great grandparents James McGowan (1846-1888) and Mary Ann Elizabeth Callaghan (1849?-1913) were from Ballymote. After James had died in 1888, Mary remarried John Regan. I do not have any more information regarding him/them.
Does anyone have more information of these folks? Parents? siblings?
thanks!
Steve

Here is a search in the 1851 census as part of a pension application in 1921 by a family of Callaghans in Ballymote:

There are a couple of other Callaghan applications from Sligo.

Civil marriage certificates list fathers' names and occupations so you could see what's listed for both of Mary's marriages.
If this is their daughter Bridget then her birth certificate will list her father's occupation-

Did any of the family go to Massachusetts?

A search of the 1851 census did not find the applicant Thomas McGowan but (if I read the form correctly) the applicant expected to find Bridget, Thomas and Mary Anne McGowan in the townland of
Brougher:

Griffith's Valuation (dated around 1858 for Sligo) shows a couple of McGowan families in the same parish:

Hi, I know you posted this some years ago but
My great great Grandfather John Callaghan was born in Ballymote around 1844. His fathers name was Patrick. John later married Ellen Mulligan in England.
Do you think there might be a connection?
