I am looking for the marriage of the above to Elizabeth Catherine ? or Catherine Elizabeth?
c 1800. He was Vicar Choral at St Patricks and there is also an organist Listed John Mathews from 1806-1827 which I guess could be him.
I have also found info stating that a John Mathews was principal copiest at St Patricks for the last 1/4 of the 18th century. The 1798 transcript of Handel's Messiah was his. I am guessing that he was John's father. This was bequeathed to a son George.
Any info would be very helpful..

Thank you. This must be the father of John Mathews. I have found an article that says John Mathews( senior) lived in Dublin from 1776 until his death in 1799. I have also found mention to him having a son George. John senior was also organist at St Mary's from 1790-1799. There was also a William Mathews who was an organist at St Mary's who was buried 7 April 1797 aged 28 at St Patricks. Also burial there of Anna Frances Mathews aged 4 months on 14 April 1797. William could have been another son of John Mathews senior. There was also a Thomas Mathews who was organist at St Mary's to 1812 then he became Chanter's Vicar at Christ Church to 1830. So possibly all the same family.
John Mathews junior was my GGGG Grandfather. He had children in the first decade of the 1800's, but I am not exactly sure what year his oldest daughter was born - Ann. My GGG Grandmother Elizabeth married in 1819 but I don't have her birth year either.
Any help greatly appreciated with this family.

I have been researching my Irish Matthews family for quite some time now and I have the following:
My GGGG Grandfather
John Mathews/Matthews married Mary Martin in 1766 in Salisbury St Thomas, Wiltshire
Principle Copyist at St Patrick's Cathedral and Vicar Choral. Cathedral Singer.
Also found in Durham Cathedral and Salisbury Cathedral
Death 1799 Dublin.
His Son my GGG Grandfather
John Mathews born about 1768, death 1854 in Clanbrassil Street, Dublin
Possible Marriage to Catherine Shaw in 1787 in Cashel Cathedral.
Vicar Choral, Organist 1806-1827
Their children were Anne, your Elizabeth and John, plus others
This John is my GG Grandfather born abt 1804 according to his death notice.
I have struggled to find their births but it could be they were born in Cashel.
Four daughters married into two of the L'estrange families, found here.

All the information you have found is the same as I have and if I find anymore I will let you know.

Hi Christine, (cousin). Great you have this further information. There are baptisms for most of the children of John & Cathe (Elizabeth Catherine) on some. Here is the link to your John

Anne is not there but most are. Four of their children married L'Estranges including my line. Two are brothers and I can't recall the relationship of the other two but I have the details.
