Hi All
Just a quick one to see if I can get any further in my family history search as ive drawn a blank at the 1871 Census. I have traced back to Mansfield Fletcher 37 Deane, Bedfordshire Head Travelling Tinman Alice Fletcher 38 Mortimore, Berkshire, England Wife in the 1871 census who would have been my x4 great grandfather. I found this information on this site http://www.gypsyjib.com/page/Fletcher+Family?t=anon. I am proud to be a Fletcher and to have Romany Gypsy ancestry but would love to go back further if anyone knows anything or can recommend anything that be a great help.
Regards Jack Fletcher

Hi Rosie That's absolutely brilliant and yes it definitely would appear that is him. Wantage is literally a stones throw from West Hanney and even better it gives his father and mothers name aswell
-
Wantage reg district covers West Hanney

This is all fascinating and cant thank you all enough for helping with this and just highlights there are some decent people in the world still. Im fairly knew to all this so do records get difficult to trace/ find before a certain date?
-
I have not been lucky enough to have Romanys in my family but you may find some info on this rootschat board http://www.rootschat.com/forum/travelling-people/
Strangely, I do however have tenuous connections to Keysoe - My grandad was born there in 1863 ;D
Any problems you have just post on rootschat, it is a really friendly site and there is normally someone that can help.
As Mabel was born in Oxfordshire she may have married there, I don't think there is a lot online for this county though I am probably wrong. It might be worthwhile asking for a lookup for Stephens marriage to Mabel as many people have indexes etc.

Yes im really pleased with how helpful everyone is on this site. I have quite a lot of Romany in my blood line not just from the Fletcher side but my nans who are the Kettlewells from Driffield in Yorkshire and my mums side who are Stallards from the Faringdon area
