Title: Do the Glanrhyd hospital patient records still exist?
Post by: sirsimon on Saturday 13 December 14 15:32 GMT (UK)
Hello

According to Archive Wales, the patient records for Glanrhyd are stored at the Glamorgan Archives, however when I visited the hospital, they said they were destroyed. When I visited Glamorgan Archives, if I can remember what they said, they were unsure if they were in the archives.

Do they still exist? Or were they actually destroyed?

My great grandfather was a patient and died in the hospital in the 1960s.

thanks

According to this they are held by Archives Wales.

If I were you I'd ask again quoting  Reference code(s): GB 0214 DHGL and see what they say.

Hi

My wife's grandfather (George Henry Cowdry, 1903-1979?) was also a patient at the hospital where he died. We believe he may have been buried at the hospital, but although it now appears the hospital has been demolished is there still a graveyard? Or was there a separate common graveyard used by the hospital?

Many thanks hanes, this is really helpful, and intriguing. I have found other posts relating to the Parc hospital which are useful and informative, so I should have searched more efficiently before asking.

Hi, my great great grandfather died in Glanrhyd hospital in 1912 and my second cousin accessed his medical records and recently sent them to me. We learnt a lot from them not just medical but his brother's names and where they lived which was a great help with our research. They also contained photos of him the only ones we'd ever seen, so priceless to us.

My mother was a patient of Morgannwg Hospital she had many admissions, would love to get a hold of her records, she passed away in 1991.

Hi There.  Several years ago I contacted Coychurch Crematorium.  Two of my Gt Aunts and one Gt uncle (siblings) were in Parc.  The lady looked through her books, without any idea of dates of death and found them even with the surname Smith!  She was able to tell me where they were laid to rest and a few other bits and pieces I didn't know.  The sad thing was, I was always told not to do any family tree research... well that made me want to do more!  I was always under the impression they all died in the 50's.  The uncle died in 1956! One died in 1984 and another in 1995. I am hoping to glean some info on Gt Uncle but cannot do anything about the other two cos of the 50 year thing?
