Hi...These are both postcards...the first has an undivided back and the second has a divided back.
A rough date would be much appreciated please....and do you think they are the same girl a few years apart?
Thanks for looking once again...and yes Caz....you can ;)

I'm on it.... :)

Like I needed to be told :P ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D fill your boots girl!!!
Carol

I'd say 1920's, not very far apart. Hard to say which is the earlier. Can't make out what magazine No 1 has. They both look like the same girl.

Thanks for your response AJ...It's very helpful...I'm not sure if they are Sisters.

first of all I'm surprised you say the first is an undivided back postcard as there's no space on the front for messages which is what they were like pre 1902.
Is it completely blank on the back ?
The 2nd. is easier to date as this style of dress with a dropped waist sash was a type from around 1915 & it wasn't long lived so sometime during WW1 I would suggest.
Can we see the backs of both?
-
Hi Jim...Thanks for that....It does say Correspondence on one side and Address only on the other but no dividing line or stamp box. The bottom back is the 1st photo.
Carol
-
I have a feeling this might be the same girl.

The stamp box on the first was in use over a long period from 1913 so WW1 looks about right.
There is a dividing line down the back of the 2nd. but it's very faint.
I don't think they are the same person by the way.
I can't see anything for Alice Gibson at the moment to find out when she was operating.
-
found an Alice Gibson in Hull who had a photographer brother.
-
Aw thanks Jim...you are good...I should have gone to Specsavers :-\ ;D ;D ;D Thanks for your input :-* and glad to see Granddad has got into the spirit of the season :D

What a pleasure doing these photos. Aside from the obvious that you know how to scan a pic, but the subject matter is so lovely.
Caz

I don' think she can have been in business very long Jim...other than a couple of her photos...there isn't any information.
Carol
-
Oh it was you who knocked my post off....Well I couldn't have been knocked off by a better person...that is really lovely Caz...you can most read the magazine..Thanks for your time...I know how long a good restore takes :-*
Carol
-
Trust me it was worth the effort. Such a pleasure to do.
Caz
-
Second one.
BTW I don't think they are the same girl.
-
Oh Caz...what a treat for the eyes :o Those colours work really well together and the girl's beautiful features have been brought out too. I love it :D :D :D
Carol
-
I'm struggling a bit with the colouring for the second girl because of the dark under tone of her tunic and I don't want to go bold again. To be honest it seems a bit sacrilegious to colour either of them as they are so beautiful in their original tone.
-
Oh I love it the way it is...I think the beauty is in the simplicity and you have brought that out...another cracking job...Thanks again Caz :-*
Carol
-
Yer, I think so too. Colour would spoil it.

..I should have gone to Specsavers
This will make you laugh. I actually have a 9.30am appointment tomorrow!

I haven't read all of the previous comments but I don't think that they are of the same girl..both lovely girls maybe sisters? Different eyes, shape of face, way hair is parted etc. Deb
-
Thanks for that Deb....yes I think it more likely that they are Sisters.

Lovely photograph. Sorry to butt in on an old thread but has anyone done any research on Alice M Gibson - Photographer? I have a number of images with her mark on. 299 Holderness Road and some with 293 Holderness Road that have a more stylish signature typeface. I found a newspaper article in 1914 she was advertising for a lady assistant and if it's the same lady she got a first in art at the local college.
Came across this thread whilst trying to figure out who another of my unknown photographs are.
Regards
Ray
