I found him on the 1901 irish census, which lists his birthplace as England, Devon has been scored out!
In 1911, there is a suggestion that his wife isnt the mother of any of his children. Does this mean he was married previously in England before he came to N. Ireland?
He would have been born in 1853/54, possibly in Devon and in the 1911 census he is listed as a 'Naval pensioner'. Any help much appreciated.

Hi
In 1911, there is a suggestion that his wife isnt the mother of any of his children
.
He says they have been married for 15yrs and no children born to that marriage. Given that the youngest child is shown as 19 and that all children are surname Rutter, it would suggest a previous marriage
Wife Elizabeth is aged 40 so is 17yrs younger than him. 2 of the crossed out children entries are 29 and 25 respectively - she wouldn't be old enough to be their mother

Is this your message on another forum?
"Hi, i'm currently researching my family tree and am looking for any information regarding Elizabeth Beasant, I think the family lived in the Cushendun/Cushendall area. In 1881 she married William Rutter in Ballycastle."
More details posted there (some of which we've already gone to the bother of finding & posting ourselves)-

If that is your thread it dates from April 2014 so not sure why you've asked some of the questions on this thread today :-\

A lot of wasted effort for info that was already known 6mths ago ::)

I'm asking about William Rutter here. In England. Thanks for being creepy though regarding my posts on other sites.

If being 'creepy' means looking for information for you then I plead guilty.
From the first post here-

The details we posted were to answer your question as to William's possible previous wife- which you already knew about so I'm not sure why you didn't make it clear what details had previously been found to you.
The census links (my red highlighting) were added with prompting from keyboard86 after I posted the same links.

I repeat: I'm looking for information on William Rutter, born around 1853/4 in Devon, England. Joined the navy at some stage.
Perhaps i should have made it clearer that I'm looking for information from England, maybe posting this in the England section was a mistake.
I posted the census' because that is pretty much all the solid information i have. (and i didn't look at the 'new' posts before editing).
Theres no point in getting annoyed at your 'wasted effort' which was your choice to try to wow me with information. Perhaps i should have been clearer, but I was specifically asking about if he was married in England.
Thanks

I certainly wasn't trying to 'wow' you with information and you did post this under England and I did realise that you wanted details of William Rutter in England.
I'm not sure why you asked for help in finding William's marriage to Elizabeth Beasant since you've already been given the details. I have been doing research for many years and I'm not the only one here who interpretted exactly what you had written in the same way.
However, you didn't seem at all clear about if there were one or two wives so forgive me for trying to help with your query and I'll try not to do so again.
-
I read your post in exactly the same way - you wanted to know if he was married previously in view of the 1911 entry.
As my reply stated - given the ages of the children and the age of Elizabeth- he must have been.
However - you already knew about the 1881 marriage as that info had been given to you back in April together with details of his first wife's death in 1893. You also knew that marriage was in Ireland so why ask about a previous marriage in England?
http://www.belfastforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=57570.0
You were advised to buy a copy of the 1881 marriage cert to find the name of William's father - have you done so?
Given the uncertainty as to his birthplace - that type of info is essential
When writing anything - although you know what your intentions are - the way in which a post is phrased can mean something entirely different to the reader.
When trying to help - we often Google the name of the ancestor in case somebody else has posted elsewhere about the same person. So it is certainly not "creepy" - to an experienced researcher it's perfectly normal.

I don't know if its just me, but belle4 your last post on this thread was very rude and bad mannered.
People are trying to help you so that means they will use every resource they can on the internet to find out information for you, it is not their fault that they came across information that you already have posted on another site and then asked if you had posted it on that site.
Other people have no problem when they post things on this site in maybe two different threads and then someone finds they have done two different threads on the same subject so to avoid duplication of information the two threads get linked to each other.
If you continue being rude towards people then I don't think people will be too willing to help you out in your research, after all why should they waste their time and some of them their credits on other sites just to get abuse from you?

Nettie,
Thank you for your concern on how rude and abusive im apparently being???. Thanks for your tone policing, it really added to the conversation here.
