Title: Halse burial records--"Effects"?
Post by: jlewis6537 on Tuesday 02 December 14 04:44 GMT (UK)
Has anyone seen the word "Effects" written in burial registers? What might that mean? It shows up on several entries in the early 1800s.

Thanks

Judy

My understanding is that the term Personal Effects, these days, refers to general personal items like clothing  and unspecified items of jewellery which have not been bequeathed to a named individual. It does not refer to property or money. Maybe someone can confirm whether or not this was the case early in the 19th century.
