Hi Derek,
I found your family on the 1861 census:
Ladywood, Birmingham
Back of 134 Sandpitts
Nathaniel Griffin Head 62 Sword Cutter Coley, Glos
Lois Griffin Wife 62 Coley, Glos
Imanuel Griffin Son 20 Gold Smith Birmingham, Warks
RG9/2130 Folio 109 Page 14
I can't find them on the 1851 but I did find this on IGI
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp
Emanuel Greffin born 16 Oct 1840
Christened 22 November 1840 Aston Juxta, Warwickshire
Parents: Nathanael and Lois
Doing a parent search I also found two more children:
Stephen Alexander Griffin Born 12 March 1838
Christened 16 April 1838 Aston Juxta, Warks
and
Kezia Griffin born 13 Jan 1833
Christened 6 March 1833 St. Phillips, Birmingham
I also found a marriage for Nathanial Griffin and Lois Smith. 13 December 1819, Coaley, Glos.
It is submittedby an LDS member so.....may be suspect...but worth checking the parish record.
You can probably get the birth cert for Emanuel from the Birmingham Register Office (always assuming that his birth was registered! In the early days of registration...one never knows!)
http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/registeroffice.bcc
Births in Aston Juxta are recorded in Birmingham
I have had good luck with the B'ham reg office. They are very helpful
I have the 1841 census cd's and will have a look through Aston...but...it covers a lot of ground...so it may take a while!
But...if I don't get back to you...don't give up....the 1841 census is slowly...very slowly ..coming on line and you will find it at:
http://www.hunimex.com/warwick/freecens/1841/index_1841.html
Hope this helps
Good luck with your search

Derek started this thread way back in 2005, and hasn't been on rootschat for over fours years, but if he still has the same email address he should receive notifications of replies. Here's hoping. :)
