Title: Metcalf's Yard, Sunderland

A little local knowledge would be much appreciated. I'm doing a FH search for my daughter-in-law, whose family came from Coundon. I've found them in the 1841 census, minus a brother and sister, in their mid-20s, who are listed together at Metcalf's Yard, Sunderland. Can anyone shine any light on the possible circumstances, please?

In the 1851 Census Metcalf's Yard is adjacent to Plumbers Alley, see the map at http://www.durham-images.org/public/ms/m11/m11sc4.html Monkey's Yard was another name for Metcalf's Yard. An old deed of 1874 refers to Monkey's or Mitcalf's Yard. A Richard Mitcalf lived there in 1846, but the name was not in general use.

Sorry, Stan -- didn't bother, because it was just a general enquiry, but thanks for the quick take-up. It's HO 107 / 321 / 5 / Folio 13 / Page 21 (East Sunderland). I was intrigued because of the number of people living there.
