I'm looking for a marriage of a John Owen to a Jane in the Chirk area sometime at least before 1828/9.Their two sons of interest are James baptised Chirk 17/05/1829,parents said to be John(Collier) and Jane of Halton. The other son is Edward baptised at Chirk 24/01/1830,parents John(Collier) and Jane of Brynkynaillt.
James I believe was to marry an Ann Parish at Ruabon in 1852.Edward is shown after 1861 as married to an Eliza and shown to have a son John born c 1859 in Chirk. This John Owen features in my Tree, though by very much a roundabout way I have contacted descendants of the James in the last day or two.

Names are familiar to me, WR, give me a bit and I'll get out my Chirk stuff and my trees :)

I see from the 1841, that they were both born 1796 +/- 5 - in 1851, Jane, now a widow, is down as born Chirk, aged 57 (so born circa 1793 - can't find a suitable baptism)
This is the nearest I can get for a marriage:
Ruabon, 17 Dec 1814
John Johns and Jane Davies, Jane signed, John made his mark. Witnesses: William Lloyd and Ann Davies
I'm not all that happy with this so will have a better look later - need to follow this couple up and/or get some earlier births of children.

Thanks Gadget.Looking through the names on GR its probable that the John Owen was born in Chirk in 1794.

Just checked my Par(r) ish tree and Ann Parish, who married James 1852, Ruabon is in it. They had:
Edward, Francis, Ellis
She would be a distant cousin* - not worked out quite but daughter of John Parish and Elizabeth Roberts - it's quite wide as they all had many offspring down the generations, including the infamous one :-X
Back later :)
* I think she's a first cousin 3 or 4 times removed

Thanks Gadget. Now possibly the earliest baptism for a child of these parents is a Francis on 18/01/1818 to parents John(Collier) and Jane of Chirk Green.

The James baptised in 1829 could be slightly deceptive.By all accounts he may well have been born in 1827.

No marriage of a John Owen(s) to a Jane in Chirk 1813- 1837, so either they married elsewhere or they didn't marry. The Ruabon one now looks a strong possible.

Thanks Gadget.GR for once has come up trumps.I contacted someone earlier who has the said James and Edward in their Tree. The contact has just replied, saying he is a descendant of the two son's sister Jane born in 1834.Jane was to marry a Philip Keddie apparently. The contact confirms the 1814 marriage to be correct.

Glad that I was at least able to help with the marriage :)
Keddie is a familiar name to me - I'm sure there were some Keddies in Chirk when I was growing p. Maybe you could PM me who the contact is, in case I'm a contemporary :)
Did you get baptisms for John and Jane or do you want me to do some searches?

PS _ I see that they have a tree on Ancestry as well! Not a lot of info as to parentage of John and Jane though.

Two possible baptisms for Jane in Chirk:
23 March 1790 d/o Edward and Anne (Brynkynallt)
27 Nov 1891 (born 8th) d/o Robert and Anne
Burial 18 Jan 1850 John Owen, Pen y park, aged 63 - so b. a bit earlier than you thought.
-
Thanks Gadget.Yes the Keddie children of Jane's were born in Chirk. Its also a name I know vaguely from Cefn Mawr. All the contact has is that John Owen and Jane Davies were both born in Chirk given as 1794.He doesn't have the other possible children of Johm amd Jane,I think there were another three, one baptised as Owens in the Chirk PRs in 1826.
Of course I was going by the possible Census and the Tree for ages of John and Jane.Contact's Tree has John dying in 1850.No death for Jane.

Well, if John was 63 when he died, his most likely parents were a John and Margaret (1785). Will need to do more checks.

Hello again, WR. I've had a good look at my Chirk booklets and the only Owen(s) family having children in Chirk 1790 +/- 10 were a Thomas and Sarah, but no John.
I've looked at Blackwell but, as you know, Chirk n-c records aren't there. Nothing in neighbouring townships either :-\

Hi I just spotted this thread. The Philip Keddie and Jane Owen you refer to were my 2nd great grandparents. I was born in Chirk of the Keddie line. Hope you have found what you were searching for.
