I used to work with a Martin Doddimead (not sure of number of 'd's). Lives in Enfield. If you don't know him already, I might be able to put you in touch to see if he know of the lady youre looking for.

I now have reason to believe she was born in 1901, will be able to confirm in a couple of weeks time.

But still seeeking further info on her line.

It is possible she came from a family who originated in Somerset.

I am a "Doddimeade", in fact I believe Martin is a distant cousin of mine and I have been in touch with him.

I have previously worked for a company which had access to the electoral role and I found approximately 12 Doddimeade's, all of whom I could account for as relatives.

I know of a few variations, and all have turned out to have some connection to my family tree, so it is a fairly unique name.

I'm not comfortable giving out my personal details, nor the details of my own research, but I would suggest to you that the "Dodimead" you seek shares her roots with my family.

Our family name traces it's origins to the Celts and can be found as far back as Roman occupied Britain. I do know that it has strong connections to Cornwall and Devon, which ties in with the Celtic connection and your connections to Somerset.

A great many of my more recent relatives (last 100 - 150 years) had moved to the London area, myself included, although I no longer live there anymore!

I would suggest you look out for "Doddimeade", "Dodimeade", "Dodymede" & "Dodimede", all of which I have come across, as well as "Dodimead". I have even found a "Doddimead" imigrant who turned up in an old library archive photo in Australia, so be prepared for quite a lengthy search regarding our name!

Regards.

Thanks for that advice, funnily enough I was looking on the 1901 census on a family who could possible be related to my Dodimead and found that both parents came from Somerset, which surprised me. I don't know why I mean they could have come from anywhere, it was a good surprise though. Am waiting a cert of this lady and then hopefully I will know a bit more.

Have cert now and it appears that the family I thought might be related are.

Which means that my branch of Dodimead's came from Mells Somerset.

I know it has been quite a few years since this post first appeared but though it worth commenting on anyway.  Doddimeade / Doddemeade is indeed a unique name and I came across it recently whilst searching the 1939 Register.  I have been trying to fill in he missing pieces of my tree on my maternal grandfather's side.  One of his siblings was Edwin Brooks and it appears that he married Dorothy M Suckling.  I found births for 2 children, one being Dorothy M Brooks.  This is where the 1939 comes into it.  I found Edwin and his wife Dorothy but also in the same house I find Harold L Doddimead / Doddemead and his wife Dorothy M Doddimeade / Doddemead who was born in the same year as Dorothy M Brooks so am thinking that I could be on the right track in that regard.  Is there any connection there with your family?
