Hi everyone
New to Australia genealogy... I'm looking for people in Melbourne and Victoria, from the 1930s. Does anyone know where I can find birth and marriage records online?
Thanks!

Hi bramble9
While you wait for Australia to wake up, I must let you know that they have very strict privacy laws over there and there is a 100 years closure on birth information and 60 years for marriages.
see 'index entries online' here
http://www.bdm.vic.gov.au/home/family+history/family+history+faqs/
have you had a look at our resources page?

This is the link to the body which holds Victoria's BMD records.
You can search for names, but to see details there is a charge.
To acquire the full certificate or an image of it downloaded to your computer, there is a further charge ;D
There is full explanation on the web page.
However many people in this forum hold private resources of Victorian BMD indexes and will gladly search these as far as possible to help you.
There are cut off limits on the years available and we must be careful to protect the privacy of all those still living.
Would you like to tell us about some of the people you are seeking?
Sue
PS Hi Dawn. I'm awake ;D ;D

woohoo, thank you both!!
The family I'm looking for move to Aus from Cornwall in England. The earliest immigration record I can find is 1942, when David Gyles Stevens leaves St Ives to move to Melbourne. I'm looking for details of his children in a bid to try and get in touch (and maybe find some old family photos!) but I guess it's going to be a lot harder than I thought! ???
Thanks :)

Maybe you could try a notice in a Vic newspaper. In NSW we have newspapers who have a section called "Desperately Seeking' or "in Touch" where you can put a small notice without charge.
noticed your prev entry which included information on David and his family which may save duplicate searching

Thank you for this!
I'm really keen to track down the children of David. I only have their first names, and as they're most likely still alive I don't think I can post them on here? ???

No you can't post the daughters names on here. None were noted as deceased on Pamela's 2012 death notice.

I note that Pamela's death was in 2012. You could try the funeral director who may have information re the daughter/s as I would assume that one of them dealt with the funeral arrangements. Some funeral directors can be very helpful - others do not even respond to queries but at least it's worth a try.
The contact for Tobin Brothers (Frankston branch) is in the Funeral Notice which Cando gave you (Reply #8).
