Hi,
I am trying to find some information on my Great, Great Aunt Catherine Gordon. Born in Co. Meath Ireland, she emigrated to New York sometime before the Irish 1901 census. She married a New York Police Officer called Thomas Gordon and as far as we know she had five living children, but she never returned to Ireland.
Some of her descendants visited Ireland in the 1960's, but as that is before my time I have little information. I am reluctant to part with that information as they may be still alive.
I am looking for some family that are related to her, and that perhaps know a little about her life. She went to the US alone, which is a brave thing to have done. I have used familysearch.org and it has been helpful, but the information is limited.
Thank you.
PS, if I have put this post in the wrong place, apologies!! I am new to this forum. :)

Hi Sandra.
Catherine was born in 1875 to Patrick and Elizabeth Heavey/Heavy.
I have a look at those links, thank you!

This family in the 1910 census has Thomas with an occupation of special officer - cemetery - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M5WW-1H9 Later census records seem to have him as a laborer at the cemetery, so I'm not sure if it's the same ones. The 1930 census does have 5 children in the family - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X4VW-BCS
The brides' database at www.italiangen.org has a marriage of Catherine Heavey & Thomas Graham in 1895. Maybe it was mistranscribed?

Thank you for that shellyesq. I have been looking through that site, and there are two listings for a Thomas and Catherine Gordon, but after doing some additional investigating I think that the correct link is https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MJR1-SYC.
I know Catherine's name is spelled differently, I was recently told that sometimes names were mis-spelled. After consulting my Dad, he is sure that this is the correct listing.
Can I ask, how did you discover occupations?

Occupations are on the census image. You can see what questions were asked on each census from the links on this site: https://www.census.gov/history/www/through_the_decades/index_of_questions/
The one for 1920 that you linked to said he was a cemetery watchman.
