Title: Need some help here
Post by: suttontrust on Saturday 02 July 05 12:33 BST (UK)
I have a couple called John and Jane(t) Nelson who, according to censuses, were born in Scotland in c.1833 and 1835 respectively.  By the 1850s they were in Carlisle and later moved to Sunderland.  I have the birth certificate of one of their children, which shows the mother as Jane McKend.  (It's very clear handwriting and really does say McKend)  I've tried Scotlandspeople and can't find a marriage.  There are a couple of possibilities for John's birth, but I've no way of knowing if either is right.  The only possibility for Janet is Janet McKendrick, but in a parish nowhere near where the John Nelsons were born.  I've looked for a marriage in England but can't find that either.  So is there anything else I can do?

I come from the family of mckend. Ours were believed to be from Dumfries and moved to Lancashire. I'm trying to trace what town in Scotland they started in.

Just seen this is an old thread so not sure how far you ended up getting?

From IGI/LDS index:

John Nelson and Janet Mc Keand married 12 Sept 1853 St Mary's Carlisle
Groom's father's name: John Nelson
Bride's father's name: John Mc Keand
