I have been researching my Crawford tree for a few years now and was given a copy of an outline tree of the family from a distant cousin that indicates that my Direct Ancestor Stephen Crawford (Shoemaker) was from Oxfordshire. His Father according to this tree was also called Stephen and indicates in brackets he as from Oxford.
The earliest documentation that I have was of a marriage in 1774 at St Oswald's, Chester for Stephen Crowfoot to Dorothy Wynn.
Later records appear to show the name as Crawford.
A burial of Stephen Crawford aged 69 took place at St Mary's, Chester in 1822
I am trying to find a Baptism for a Stephen Crawford b. 1753 can anyone help please. I have sent an email to the Oxford FHS to see if they can find anything.
Many thanks,
Liam Crawford

Hi Liam,
I checked the OFHS Marriage Index for any Stephen/Steven with surname 'CR*' and one possibility came up for the parents of your Chester man:
1 June 1744 in Chipping Norton, Stephen CRAWFORD married Sarah PAXFORD.
I don't have the CD of C. Norton PRs, but someone on here will be able to look up the full details. In the meantime, no doubt OFHS will be checking their baptism index for you.
Good luck!

Hello Carol,
thank you. I have been in contact on Ancestry with 2 descendants of Stephen Crawford & Sarah Paxford and they have assured me they only had 2 daughters as they were late in age when they married. I have been asking them for helps also as This Stephen had Brother and it is possible 1 married and had son also called Stephen but this is still to be investigated.
Thank you Carol
Regards
Liam
