Hi All
My family are all originally from Lancashire but it appears that some moved back to West Riding.
My Great Grandmother (Mary Hardaker) was originally from Armley, Yorkshire. She married Job Wilson BOWN in 1899 in New Wortley before moving to Lancashire.
They had 3 children - Florence Ada, James & Eliza.
Florence & James were born in Manchester (Peel Green / Trafford) but Eliza was born in Morley in 1910.
On the 1911 census I have Job W BOWN living / working in Stretford but Mary and the kids were in Mortley.
This much I have already discovered ;)
I have been trying to find out what has happened to these children but there has been nothing coming up in the Lancashire records....so I changed tack and looked on Yorkshire BMD and come across 2 possible marriage records for Florence and Eliza.
Yorkshire Marriage indexes for the years: 1928
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
BOWN Eliza KENWAY Harold St Lawrence, Pudsey Leeds CE133/B/467
BOWN Florence KELLY Samuel Leeds Registered Building Leeds RB/253/179
Would anyone be able to assist in getting more details with these records please?? I wanted to try this route first before I go and order certificates and find out they weren't the right ones.....
As always any help is very much appreciated :)
Many thanks
Nicki

Hi
The marriage to Samuel Kelly cannot be looked up as it was a civil marriage
-
The Bown/Kenway marriage shows her father as Henry Bown

To save on expense of sending for Bown/Kenway marriage documentation:

Thanks Guys!! :)
I'm still wondering if they are mine........even though the father on Eliza'a marriage was listed as Henry Bown.......on the 1911 census they were living with a Henry "Hall" - could it be that the marriage of Job & Mary broke down and Mary "shacked" up with Henry???
I did find it a bit strange that Mary ended up back in Yorkshire after moving to Manchester.....
More questions!!! ;D and a lot more digging!!

Side issue: The Hardaker name is alive and kicking still in Armley. :o

(Just messaged a Hardaker to see if any information available.)

I think Florence may well have married Samuel Kelly and I think the Kenway marriage may well be Eliza - see what you think. I have "bolded" the relevant bits
24.9.1928 - address for both is just shown as 40 Gibralter (no street or road)
Harold Kenway 27 bachelor occ collier no father shown
Eliza Bown 19 father Henry - farm labourer
Witnesses James Collingham & Florence Kelly
-
Are you sitting comfortably ;D
5 children born to the Kenway marriage - last birth in 1933 but can't see anything for the Cavendish marriage
Harold Kenway died 1943 and there is a Leeds marriage in 1946 of Eliza Kenway to Edward Cavendish
Death in Leeds 1985 for an Edward Cavendish but he was born 1915 so if he married Eliza he was 5yrs younger than her
Marriage in 1956 in Leeds of Eliza Cavendish to John Robb so she must have divorced
Death of Eliza Robb in 1983 in Leeds born 8.7.1909
There is no birth in Yorkshire for an Eliza Bown b September qtr 1909 or for an Eliza Bown b 1910 (she is 1yr in 1911 b Morley)
Morley came under the Dewsbury RD and there is this birth
Births September qtr 1909
Eliza Hall Dewsbury 9b 505

Gibraltar was a small hamlet @2mile from the centre of Pudsey.
