I have inherited a birth certificate for an unknown blood line and am currently trying to tie it into my database, found in my mothers estate so must be somehow related, perhaps an illegitimate blood line kept secret.
Hence I am trying to trace the parents of Alfred S G Cooper birth registered in Sep 1912 e.preston with mothers surname Jones.

What information does the birth certificate give on the parents or is it a 'short' one

Marriages March qtr 1910

Hi
There is another marriage in 1895 East Preston district of a Stephen James Cooper, the two potential brides include a Kate JONES and Annie Mary Gibbins.
Can find census entries for a family in Littlehampton, East Sussex of a Stephen and Kate Cooper, but their ages are in the mid to late forties by 1911, so may be a little old to be Alfreds parents.

The couple I found were away in 1911

1891 census for the family I found show Kate Jones as housekeeper to Stephen Cooper, with 6 children
Lyminster
Stephen Cooper 29 mar. gen lab. bn Sussex Littlehampton
Kate Jones 26 S Housekeeper " "
Arthur Cooper 8 " Brighton
Albert Cooper 7 Lyminster
May Cooper 6 "
William Cooper 5 "
Henry Charles Cooper 2 "
Robertt M O Cooper 10mnths "
Class RG12, Piece 838, Folio 104, Page 11.
Wonder if Kate was their mother if they didn't marry until 1895.

I think only the full birth certificate will solve it or maybe his marriage in 1934 ;D

I think we can discount this one. He was discharged from the army in 1914 suffering from severe heatstroke. Wife named on paperwork, no mention of an Alfred.

Many thanks for the lookups, I think I will invest in some certificates.
My Mother told me that she visited as a young girl some cousins that lived towards Brighton, they had a laundry business but could not remember who they where.

I have checked my database and have never resolved the parents of Alfred.
I do have that he most probably married Margorie Gray
-
His full name on the registration is Alfred Stephen George Cooper (though presumably that is already known if a birth certificate is in hand).
I would suggest looking for him in the 1939 Register - playing with the free search suggests he may have his mother Kate and wife Margery with him. We can't post details here though.

Thanks Rob. I am tracing the Gray Line!!! We didn't know Marjorie married twice, Alfred being the first. We can't find a death for him so we were wondering what happened. Why did your mum have the certificate, maybe we have a very thin link!!!

Did Marjorie Gray have a child either with Alfred or before marrying him? If you access the 1939 Register it is always worth seeing whether there is a redacted member of the household.
Also, FreeBMD shows a possible Cooper/Gray daughter born in Worthing district in 1943 (who obviously would not appear in 1939).
I see that Marjorie went on to marry Frederick Lawson in Worthing district in 1947.

Wow, thank you for info. Don't usually use FreeBMD but will have a look. We don't know if marj and Alfred had any children , but may be we do now. We only knew about Fred Lawson so any cooper/gray children are going to be a bonus.
Thanks for all you help.
