This is a very long shot but just wonder if some one may be able to help me on the following.
Some years ago came across a book published on travelling fairs in the Midlands, full of photos.
Found photo of a young girl,,, possibly my family member,,, standing with the Price family in front of their large side show at Nottingham Goose Fair in the 1930s.
Unable to find much on this Price family on the Travelling folk topics on here,so posted on
this one.
Unfortunately have mislaid the original info, but from memory believe this book was written by a
former member of Nottingham Council,[largish coffee table type.]
Sorry my info on this is scarce, thanks Brionne.

Very many thanks Copperbeech5,I know its a pretty hopeless task, trying to find this book without the correct title. Somewhere I have that illusive piece of paper with the info, carefully put away, never to be found again.
Will now also try Nottingham Library, probably printed 1980s. Thanks,
Brionne.

Hi brionne,
Oh gosh I know that feeling, stop thinking about it, and your bit of paper will turn up!!
The crew at Nottingham Library are great so that sounds like a good plan. Hope you are successful in your hunt.
Best wishes,

I came across this post a bit randomly, but a quick search came up with this list, something here may jog your memory if you didn't have any luck :)

and

(down the bottom are some sources).
Incidentally, I also have Macpherson ancestry, I don't suppose yours are the ones from around Shielfoot/Acharacle, with Thomas who went missing at sea on the Laurestina? :)

Oh dear - I didn't read the whole thread and it seems one of those links had been posted already, sorry! :-[

Thanks so much Fenifur.
As a result of your post actually found my piece of paper with the book title.
The Naughty Ninety Girls,,,,,author G.C.A Austin,,,,, this man was Nottingham Clerk to the Markets for 37 years.
Have found 2 other titles by him re other subjects, but unable to find out about the above.
The Price family had shows, the girls called,,Paraders,,,
The Belles of the Barbary Coast, and The Naughty Ninety Girls.
The photo I am after was taken at Nottingham Goose Fair in Autumn 1933.
Have found more recent references for same side shows in 1957,1959,1965.
Perhaps this post can be moved to Travelling people fairs etc.

Sorry still do not have the correct book title just the author G.C.A.Austin. written about travelling Fairs. Can anyone source it for me,Thanks Brionne.

The only mention of him writing about the fairs I could find was in his own memoirs?
However I did find this photo - from 1959 :)

Fenifur, thank you so much, must have taken ages to find all these small bits of film.
I need to go into these in depth and verify dates etc,yes thats the side show am looking for.
Photo in book is dated Autumn 1933,[note I made at the time],was actually on a cruise, book came from the ships library.
There will be many people on here that will enjoy seeing all this vintage fair archive film.
Your help much appreciated.Brionne.
