Could anyone colourise this photo? Can anyone here with a knowledge of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders identify this picture from circa 1914? What battalion, squad, armoury, members, etc.?
My g-grandfather Herbert William Frew is second top left

Can't say exactly which Battalion but this looks like a Coy. from the TF possibly on annual training.
-
Thanks jim1 - it must be the TF because of the wee lad at the front - could it be the 8th?
-
There were a number of TF Batts. They were raised in different locations so knowing where he lived would narrow it down.

A bit of colour from me

thanks jim1 and Trishanne
He apparently lived in Gouroch, Scotland at least between 1914 and 1920
That is really cool colouring work...thanks so much
-
Going by his location I would say it would have to be the 1/5 or 2/5 as these were TF Batts. raised at Greenock which was only 2mls. from Gourock.

Hi Alex and welcome to Rootschat...You can see a tutorial at the top of the board for resizing images...you can post a file size of up to 500kb on here...your coloured version looks great..but...I would untick the attach image..save...then try to upload your restore to just under the file limit of 500kbs....Yours is only 36kb

Nice photo to see James. I had three great uncles, brothers in the Argyll and Sutherlands, 2nd battalion. All went to France August 1914, two were dead by October.

Just sharing.
