Hi I am looking for any information on a John Mackie born in Nairn Nairn-shire Scotland on 4th October 1886 to John Mackie and Ann Mackie Ms McDonald they married on 29th December 1876 in Nairn. I have looked extensively in Ancestry and have a few possibilities of him on route to Australia. On his fathers death certificate in 1916 John is home and his address on this is Melbourne. When his mother died in 1924 no record to say he was home. Any info would be appreciated.

"....On his fathers death certificate in 1916 John is home and his address on this is Melbourne".
I am not sure what you mean...."home"........is John at his parents' home in 1916 when father dies, and son John is living in Melbourne?....seems unusual to have home address of son on a death certificate.
When John MACKIE senior d. 1916, how is his son John b. 1886 described please.

John MACKIE's service record can be found on National Archives Australia.
Mackie John : SERN 8653 : POB Inverness Scotland : POE Melbourne VIC : NOK W Mackie Miriam Lucy
A quick glance reveals John enlisted in Australia and was given leave around 1916 while in the UK, probably in regards to his father's death. There is also a marriage record and the last page may have a note for his death in 1934 where he appears to be in Qld.
Hope that helps a little,
Sashar

Thank you so much for all your information I am overwhelmed with the help received and have followed up all the links. I know I would not have managed to source all these historical memories on my own. On some of our death certificates in Scotland the person present at the death if not residing in the home states where they live. When John Mackie was at the death of his Father in 1916 in Nairn his residence was given as Oxford Street Okleigh Melbourne. Thanks again.

Hi Ruth,
The WW1 enlistment records show that John MACKIE enlisted at Essendon which is a suburb of Melbourne in the State of VICTORIA. At some stage John must have resided in Melbourne and after his return from the war headed to the State of QUEENSLAND where a lot of the Electoral Roll information has been found.
All the States of AUSTRALIA have their own separate records covering different periods of time.
Your rellies have been quite adventurous being found in three States of Australia, VICTORIA, QUEENSLAND and STH AUSTRALIA.
Best wishes as you continue in your research,
Sashar
