I have come across mention of a german buxton from swanwick before in previous posts who was born 1785 then sent to australia in 1818 for being involved in the pentrich revolution and was wondering if there could be a link to my john buxton born 1816 swanwick. I don't know who johns parents where but know he married a diana (possibly diana gent) and had 4 sons german buxton b1836 levi buxton b1841 nathan b1850 and henry b1853 all born ilkeston. Does anybody think there could be a link? Or know who johns parents may of been and maybe if his parents are on the 1841 census?

Hi,
John Buxton married Diana Gent 15th December 1825 Ilkeston Derbyshire.
On all census he gives his place of Birth as Ilkeston, where did you get the information
from that he was born 1816 Swanwick?

Hi, that musnt be my john then as if he was born 1816 he couldn't of married in 1825, I thought I had saved it from a census that he was born in 1816 in swanwick.

Johns children were born in ilkeston

Hi,
BIG SORRY I typed the wrong year for marriage it should have been 1835. It is your John
1851 Census he was living with his inlaws, with his wife and children.
You can see this marriage by searching www.familysearch.org.
There is also a marriage 31.12.1812 Ilkeston German Buxton = Elizabeth Henshaw.
I have only found 1 chid Bpt to them
Weslyn Meth. Ilkeston
Born 2.9.1816 Bpt 30.12.1822 Elizabeth Parents German Buxton Elizabeth Henshaw
Think these may be the parents to your John - but need to find evidence.
Hope I have no typos this time.

Thank you, it does seem to fit dosnt it, naming his 1st son after his father as I doubt german buxton is an overly common name, also could fit in with my query that is my buxtons realted to the german buxton involved in the pentrich revolution
-
Does it not name fathers name on johns marriage to diana?
-
Hi,
No Fathers names are not recorded.
On Later Census John does state born Swanwick however 1841 living in Ilkeston and in that
Census only required to state County. 1851 he states Ilkeston.

Hi,
A little more information re the German Buxton of the Pentrich Revolution.
German Buxton born 1787 in Wessington, Derbyshire.
His Bpt is in the Crich Parish Registers:- http://www.crichparish.co.uk/webpages/bmdBr.html
German Buxton Bpt 21.10.1787 Father - John Buxton
There is a site where Sylvia has put together family trees of the Pentrich Revolutionaries,
however although she indicates there is a tree for Buxton where it should be there appears
to be a duplication of the Bramley tree.

Hope this assists.
