Title: Sackville West
Post by: jobyjo on Friday 31 October 14 07:58 GMT (UK)
Can anyone help me out with the Sackville West family I know they were a well known family in Brighton in the 19th century and there is a place named after them Sackville crescent near the sea front, so can I assume that is where they lived?I have visited Sackville Crescent but there is no indication of their residence, beautiful Georgian houses line the crescent it must have been a well to do area.Any history would be good.
Thanks Jobyjo

Lots on the family in the Dictionary of National Biography (which I can't copy here for manifest copyright reasons) - should be accessible at your local library, indeed my library gives online access.

There is a useful bibliography in Vita Sackville-West's DNB article, including a mention of a biography: V. Glendinning, The life of Vita Sackville-West (1983). Vita was born at Knole and later lived at Sissinghurst Castle.

What a fascinating family surname! There are loads of photos and records in Anc for this family.
Have a squiz it's great stuff, related to all kinds of Earl's.
