Title: St Peter's Church, Milford Haven
Post by: yogievans on Tuesday 28 October 14 17:43 GMT (UK)
Hi,

Several of my relatives were baptised in St Peter's Church. Does anyone know where it was? I was a Milfordian, and I cannot remember it ever being mentioned.

In the fifties there was a fruit and veg shop called the Chapel on the corner of Robert Street and Dartmouth Street. I remember the building, and it did look like a small place of worship. So what were its origins?

Are you possibly confusing the church of St Peter's for the church of St Katherine's & St Peter's.

Hi Owen ap Benfro,

I appreciate that St Katharine's full title is the Church of St K and St Peter, however I have two baptism records dated 1911 and 1938 which gives the baptism place as the Church of St Peter. I have never seen St K described in this way. Also the person baptised in 1938 was confirmed in St Katharine's in 1952.
There may be a tribal memory of a ramshackle building around the St Peter's Road/Robert Street area, but I may be wrong.

Regards

Ian

I believe this place of worship was a baptist church.  There are now houses on the site (I owned one of them for a while).  The garden walls of the property are the walls of the old church.

As for Saint Peter's church Milford_Lass is correct and it was sometimes known locally as "The Tin Tabernacle" as it was walled with corrugated iron and if memory serves was painted green

Hi,

Thanks to all for comments and info. I obtained photos and street view of St Peters from facebook.
I can remember going into the Chapel fruit and veg shop, and, looking back, it appeared to small to be a place of worship!! The vegetables acually had soil on them!! and the fruit were different sizes!!! Paper bags and no plastic in sight. Happy days indeed.

Hi,

I wondered if anybody was successful in tracking down photos of St Peter's Church that burned down? My mother used to attend the church and has very fond memories of it. She is looking for a photo but we can't find one anywhere.

Many thanks all

Alex
