Good morning,
I am trying to trace Annie GOULD b. 1916, who would have worked at the Sharp's Toffee factory in Maidstone in the mid 1950's. I understand that the factory no longer exists. If anyone might suggest where I could start to search for information I would be very grateful.
She probably lived at 31 Astler Street during the war, married to a carpenter called Henry GOULD, who was later killed in action in the Middle east in 1943.
Any tips as to local resources would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi Nick
Do you have her exact date of birth?
My immediate thoughts....
She remarried and her surname changed, you may need to check out all the marriages after 1943 to see if you can find her amongst them
or she has passed away without remarrying but there are several Annie Goulds in the death index which is why I asked about her dob
I note the CWGC citation mentions his parents, doing a bit of speed genealogy I found a sister, are you in contact with her family to see what they might know?

Good morning Dawn,
Thanks for coming back rapidly.
Annie was born Annie MIDDLETON on 30th May 1916 in Darlington, Co.Durham, possibly baptised on 15th June. She married Henry GOULD on 25th December 1940 in Darlington, but I think they moved down to Maidstone afterwards where Henry came from.
I haven't found a remarriage to date as, of course, that was one of the evident options. I am not in contact with the GOULD family, but am distantly related through Annie's mother. What happened to her is a bit of a mystery, especially for her neices - but the story is rather complicated !
Thanks again for your interest.

There are only 14 Annies in the death index 1969-2007 with her exact date of birth but various surnames.
Might be worth looking to see if any of them could be her.
Check out all the post 1943 Annie Gould marriages to see if you can follw any of them through to their deaths.
Other than that, suggestions would be that she is still alive or has died after 2007 or died before 1969 when dates of birth are recorded
Have you been able to establish through post war electoral registers whether she was still at Astler Street after the war?
