Looking for verification of family of Robert and Mary Ann Fathers, Aston, Warwickshire. Have conflicting information from baptisms of some children
e.g William, Bapt. 1879; Father: Robert CHARLES, Mother: Mary Ann Holy Trinity, Bordesley
Elijah and Martha, Bapt. 1881; Father: CHARLES, no mother listed; Christ Church, Sparkbrook
Alice, born 1885; Father: CHARLES (on her marriage certificate) Cannot find baptism record
Beatrice, Bapt. 1887; Father: Charles, Mother: Mary Ann (BUT her father is Robert George on the marriage certificate); Christ Church, Sparkbrook
Lilian, born 1888; Father: Robert George on her marriage certificate. Cannot find baptism record.
Other children born to Robert & Mary Ann (these parents names are listed on their baptism records)
Robert George & Mary Ann Bapt. 1875; Robert Frederick Bapt. 1876; Henry Bapt. 1878; William Bapt. 1882; Rose Bapt. 1883.
Has there been an error in the recording of the fathers name OR have I simply mixed up 2 completely different families??? Census records place the children with Robert and Mary Ann. Although Robert is not in the family home for the 1901 Census.
Any suggestions will be most welcome. Many thanks. ???

Hi
Where you able check both the occupation of the father and the address given for each of these Baptisms?? That might help sort out whether or not you have two families here.
Cheers

Thanks for your prompt replies rosie99 and karenlee. The family you have listed in both those census listings is the one I have been researching rosie99. I actually found 2 Williams - 1 born 1879, died 1880; then the 2nd born 1882. Yes, karenlee, in all the baptism entries I have found the fathers occupation is listed as "bricklayer", which matches the census entries and children's marriage details I have as well. The address changes quite a bit over the times of the baptisms:
Court 37, High Street, Deritend - 1875
33 Court, High Street, Deritend - 1876
4 Dover Place, White Road, Bordesley - 1878
3 House, 6 court, White Road - 1879
White Road - 1881
White Road - 1882
3 House, 11 Court, White Road - 1883
59 South Road - 1887
Found some of those addresses rather interesting e.g. 3 House, 6 Court, White Road. Whatever does that mean??
Thanks again. :)

I would imagine it would be
House 3 (though probably just one or 2 rooms) within Court 6.
Anyway I don't think you have mixed the families, for some reason he used the name Charles at one point. Do you have his christening / birth registration

Thanks rosie99 -good to hear you have come to the same conclusion that I thought possible. Robert George Fathers must have used the name Charles for some reason, or the church official may have misheard or written the wrong name down perhaps. I don't have a copy of his birth registration itself but do have the registered entry numbers etc.
Robert Fathers (child of Frederick Fathers and Martha Alder nee Bateman) was born in Upper Heyford, Oxfordshire in 1855: March quarter 1855, Registration District: Bicester, Vol. 3a, Page: 515. He is listed on the 1861 Census for Upper Heyford just as Robert Fathers, aged 6, son of Frederick and Martha Fathers.
To verify his middle name I will have to purchase the certificate.
Many thanks for your help. More work yet to do on the children and siblings of Robert Fathers and their respective children. :)

If there was a middle name showing on the birth registration it would show on the GRO index.
Strangely he is quoted as Charles on separate dates for christenings at Sparkbrook.

Exactly right rosie99. That was what had me wondering if I had mixed up 2 families, but from the census entries it doesn't look like it. Another of those mysteries we might never solve I guess. Although, there seems to be a habit of using different names with this family: son Henry (Baptism cert.) known as Harry (Marriage cert.) and Robert George's younger brother was baptised Frederick Thomas but known as Thomas. All adding to the confusion!
Thanks again for your help.
