Title: can anyone identify this uniform please

good afternoon everyone

i have been trying to find out about my husband's grandfather and what he did during the war the stories that we have been told seem to change with different tellers so we decided to start from scratch and as this is the only piece of evidence we have that is firm we where wondering if anyone could tell us anything about the uniform he is wearing.

we would be most greatfull for any information.

Unfortunately the cap badge is not visible enough to ID his regiment. That said even if you did know the cap badge that still would not be enough to research what he did during WW2. The only way to do this is by applying for a copy of his service records from the MoD for £30. They will tell you all of the units he served with and when amongst other things. Once you've ID'd his unit(s) you can then start looking at what the units were doing and where they were doing it.

He is a Royal Bershire regt soldier - 99% sure.  The badge is a Chinese dragon over the Royal Berkshire scroll.  The ends of the scroll are distincive which rules out similair designs such as the Buffs or Leicesters.

The side cap and tunic are 1938-mid war.  by the end of the war the hat was a GS cap/beret and the tunic had exposed buttons as an economy measure.
