I am looking for a helen stewart who gave birth to a son named jasper on 3rd december 1861 in the village of mersington parish of eccles, kelso, scotland. she was a farm labourer and unmarried. I want to know if she married and to whom, and any descendants she may have from that marriage.
-
Jasper appears to be with his grandparents in 1871 in Eccles. He is noted as the son of David and Agnes Stewart but since they are 66 and 62 respectively I rather doubt they are his parents. Helen is not with them.

Thankyou all for the information. Did David and Agnes Stewart have children other than Helen? How would I go about tracing them?

Hi if you read back some of the previous post you will see I listed some of the family of Daniel and Agnes in 1851 census .
1861 census there is Daniel aged 50 Agnes 48,Jane b 1843 Minto Roxburgh ,Alexander 1845 Coldstream ,Thomas 1851 Makeston ,Charles 1853 Southdean ,Christina 1857,Linton John 1860 Linton
1871 census you have with Jasper with his grandparent's
1881 Agnes Stewart age 69 daughter Christine 24,son John 21 ,grandson James Stewart born 1877 Eccles
It looks like Daniel has died so you can search for a death on www.scotlandspeople to get his parents ...You can also search for the births of these children on www.familysearch bearing in mind some births were not always recorded before 1855...You can also search for marriages for some of the family and census forms ...hope this helps

Hi, saw the above post. My husbands Great Grandfather was the above Jasper Stewart. I have some information if you are interested. thanks
-
Jasper Stewart is my great grandfather. He became a farmer and landowner in Canterbury, New Zealand and died a wealthy man. Not bad going from where he began! I believe that he was only 14 when he emigrated to NZ as a shepherd.
Helen Stewart's mother, Agnes, registered his birth. A year later a James Stark declared his paternity of the child. Jasper was living with his grandparents in 1871.
I, too, have failed to sort out what happened to his parents - did they marry? I am leaning toward not.
-
Hi,saw your post. Jasper is also my Husband's Great Grandfather. He descends from Charles Gordon Stewart.
-
How about that! I descend from Dorothy Isabel, Jasper's eldest daughter from his second marriage to Harriet Ann Greig. My grandmother left me some lovely photos which I would be happy to share with you. I have a public family tree on Ancestry as well.
-
That's amazing.I have been hoping to find this side of the family. I have sent you PM rather than put my email address here.

Hello again, sorry to take so long to get back to you Helen. I've tried to send you a photo of Jasper with his second wife and all his children but the file is too large.
