One I have been struggling with for a while!!
Selina Stenson b 1835/36 married William Davy aged 19 in 1854. He unfortunately died aged 34.
Selina Davy then married John Blagg in 1962 from what I understand is that he then deserted her 4 month later?? anyone able to clarify??
In 1871 I have found a census showing Letina (selina) married to a Jacob Booth and have 2 children named Kate and Emily, with Mary Ann being a lodger?? However this is Selina's other daughter with William??
In later Census she is back being Selina Blagg??
I am just confused with Selina and hoping someone is able to give me the information and clarity I need to move forward.
Many Thanks in advance.

Just trying to work through systematically

William Davy 34 locomotive engine driver
Selina 25 wife bn Ratby
Mary Ann 4
William 2
Elizabeth 8 mths
Marriage

William Davey/ Selina Stenson
So far, so good.
There is a death for a William Davey in Leicester Oct/Nov/Dec 1865, no age in index.
If this William he would be about 38
But this couldnt be his death, if Selina remarried in 1862! He must have died before then.

Marriage
Oct/Nov/Dec 1862
Leicester
7a 466
Selina Davy/ John Blagg
Have you got this certificate to be sure it is the same person?
The 1871 census looks as if she is living with Jacob Booth as his wife, but I cant see any marriage.
You wont be able to confirm exactly when her marriage to Blagg failed , but clearly before 1871.
Presumably her relationship with Booth then failed too.

The family is on my tree but I haven't looked at it for a while.
This morning, I found that Emily Blagg married Arthur Taylor in 1889 and is in Black Friars Street in 1891, with a daughter, Mary.
Kate married Charles Armstrong in 1888 and is living in Friars Causeway - no children.
Mary Ann Davy married William Lay and William Davy married Fanny Chambers. I have no marriage for Elizabeth.

This looks like William Davy's burial in Welford rd, plot no. uO 256
DAVY WILLIAM buried 1861 JUL 14 30 RICHARD STREET SAINT GEORGE
he's buried with the following:
UNWIN --- 1856 OCT 10 STBN MILTON STREET SAINT MARGARET (CHILD OF MRS UNWIN)
DAVEY MARY ANN 1856 OCT 10 17MTHS WOOD STREET SAINT MARGARET presumably William's and Selina's daughter
STENSON THOMAS ALFRED 1862 JUL 9 3WKS RICHARD STREET SAINT GEORGE Now who was this? The road name is the same but no house number given. If this child was Selina's, I would expect it to have Selina's married name.
-
The inquest on William's death is in the papers; Leic Chronicle, Sat 13 July 1861. He died in a work accident at Matlock, which is why his death isn't recorded on FreeBMD in Leicester.
Deaths Sep 1861

Emily's birth:

STENSON THOMAS ALFRED 1862 JUL 9 3WKS RICHARD STREET SAINT GEORGE Now who was this? The road name is the same but no house number given. If this child was Selina's, I would expect it to have Selina's married name.
She doesnt marry Blagg till Oct/Nov/Dec 1862
Child age 3 wks in July, born June, conceived Sept 1861 ish. After William Davy's death, so not his child.
But maybe not Selinas child at all.
-
Selina's name from marriage to William would have been Davy until she married someone else; I don't think an illegitimate child would have taken her maiden name when she had given it up.
Maybe Selina had a sister or a sister in law who was staying there.
Kate's birth

In 1871, Selina Booth and family were living in Talbot Lane.
In the Leic Chronicle of Sat Feb 12 1876, Selina DAVEY of Talbot Lane was a witness to a robbery.
There are no burials in Welford Rd for a Selina Davy/Davey/Davie
Emily and Kate, whose births seem to have been registered as Booth, seem to have reverted to being called Blagg by 1881 and may have married under that name; I can't find any trace of them as Booth on freeBMD.
Jacob Booth seems to have been lodging with a family in Cheshire in 1881.
-
Re the burial of Charles Armstrong, could the age given as 15 be the date? He is recorded as 59 in the index and was Kate Blagg/Booth's husband.
In the next two censuses, she is recorded as a widow, living with her son, Charles, who was born Q3 1891.
A probable death for Kate - Dec 1959 in Leicester.
Emily had at least six children - Mary, Clara, Arthur, Nellie, Emily and Lizzie.
It would be interesting to see who is recorded as the father on the two marriage certificates.

Re my previous message, I have found Charles Armstrong's army record, which shows that his mother was Kate Shelton of 31 Bassett Street. Kate married George Shelton in Q1 1912.
There is a probable death for Kate in March 1957
Initially, Charles was in the 11th Leicestershire regiment but then transferred to the 16th Yorkshire and Lancashire, when he gave his home address as that of his wife's parents.
He married Ethel Horner on 11th November 1916. She was the daughter of William Horner and Susannah Glover.
There are four possible births for children - Charles 1920, Evelyn 1921, Edward 1926 and Alan in 1927.

Thank you for posting the above.
Re the BMD in 1875 Mary Ann Davy married William Lay and had six children - Elizabeth, William, Edwin, James Forester, Selina and Kate.
It looks as though Kate and Emily were registered as Booth at birth, married as Blagg but baptised as Davy.
