Title: Askrigg parish records possible?
Post by: sbk on Friday 01 July 05 08:52 BST (UK)
I am searching for the parents of Hean (Jane) Hogg . She was born in 1794 in Askrigg, her father was John Hogg.  I am not certain her father was from Askrigg as well but it is always worth a shot.

Her birthdate would be great as well as any info on her parents, if at all possible!

As no-one has replied to this can I suggest that you contact the Upper Dales Family History group?   They are part of Cleveland FHS and have a great deal of knowledge of that area.   www.bishopdale.demon.co.uk/fhs/
They have an email group who answer queries of this sort.

Another site you may find useful is:

http://www.geocities.com/beaulands/census/framepage1.html

It contains searchable censuses of Wensleydale & Swaledale.

Yes, I know about that one, it does list a James Hogg in Aysgarth but he is too young and no Hogg's at all in Askrigg. Was hoping for something that went back a bit further than 1841 I guess.

When I was in Askrigg a couple of years ago, I was able to spend a morning looking at a transcript of all the Parish Records from St Oswalds Church.

They were in an upstairs room at the post office just across the road from the church.

If you are local this may be of help to you.

Well, I tried the Upper Dales Family history group but received no response  :-[

Maybe I should try again, I hate to be a nag but as I am not living in the UK it is impossible for me to drop in myself.

I'd love to someday tho, the Yorkshire dales certainly look beautiful!

Hello SBK

Thanks for your reply. Of course I had not realised you were not living in the UK. Unfortunately I cannot undertake to check the records for you myself. However I notice you have previously been referred to the Beaulands Dales Census Site. I have actually corresponded with Christine Amsden - who runs this site, she now lives in Canada. If you have not asked her before it is worth sending her an E Mail and asking your question. She is a wonderful lady and her Web Site is without equal in my experience.

Good Luck

Lancastrian.
