Thomas Russell born about 1843 somewhere in Ireland. Emigrated to Canada and married Matilda Jane Neely (Neily) of New Brunswick on February 17, 1863. Died November 1894 in Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada.
His father may have been named William and his mother Jane. Does anyone know anything further about him?
Researching ancestry records seem to stop with Thomas.
Any and all suggestions/records would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Helen Russell, Ontario, Canada

His marriage seems to list parents as William and Jane so do you have any reason to doubt this?
Civil registration of births in Ireland started 1864 so to find any details of Thomas' baptism you'll need to have an idea of where he came from (parish if not actual townland) to see if church records exist.
Have you searched all possible Canadian resources for further clues? (gravestone, obituary, local histories, etc.)
Added- one online tree provides his mother's maiden name- Ewing (which may or may not be correct), saying both parents born Scotland. It would be worth checking with other relatives to see what else they might know.

I have a family tree/ancestry chart done by a distant relative in the early 1990s that simply lists his name and Ireland as the birthplace and the year. After countless hours on ancestry and through various Canadian sites, this is still where I end. The generation up from us is now all gone and none of the cousins has more history than we. My husband seems to think that he was told Limerick was the area in Ireland. There were also relatives in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Matilda Jane's gravesite was found but not his. We will be taking a trip to explore that graveyard soon.
