Can anyone find this couple in 1881.
They have lots of children, but I`ve not put them down because they have probably left home by then.

Straw clutching time - Could they be living with a married daughter and be wrongly shown under her married name?

Hello,
The Joseph and Martha you mention are buried in the same grave in Greenacres Cemetery.
http://apps1.oldham.gov.uk/bacasweb/gensearch.aspx.
Other Bottomleys in the same grave are: George 38 yrs in 1875 and a baby James in 1859. Also in the grave are Hannah Wolstencroft and Annie Wood. Are these your family?
There are also addresses - Martha's is 21 Overens Street but she is not there in census.

They did have a George of the right age, and Martha possibly married a Wolstencroft in 1862.
I just can`t find them in 1881. ???

Thanks everyone, but I am stumped. This is only thing I can find.
Marriages Dec 1879
ATTERSALL Ben Oldham 8d 827
BOTTOMLEY Mary Jane Oldham 8d 827
1881 Mulberry St
Ben Attersall 29
Mary J. Attersall 23
On the same page is a Joseph Bottomley 37 , but he is not father, and doesn`t seem to be a brother. His age isn`t right.

That's the marriage I was referring to:
Mary Jane Bottomley 23 yrs 21 Nutter Street father Joseph Bottomley Publican
George Bottomley's address on burial is Nutter Street
-
Benjamin and Martha Wolstencroft baptise a Hannah in 1863 in the parish of Glodwick within Oldham - this might be the one sharing the grave?.
-
And in 1891 Benjamin Wolstencroft is a publican at 21 Nutter Street :)
1881 the Wolstencrofts are across the road from the Attersalls in Mulberry Street

An Emma Bottomley marries in Q2 1871 - possible spouse is John Wood. There's an Emma Wood the right age, with husband John in a Court off Nutter St on 1881, with children Mary J and Martha (both born New York!).
john and Emma Wood of No1 court, Nutter St, baptise a daughter Annie in Jan 1881. There's also a death of an infant Annie on FreeBMD in the same quarter. Might be the other occupant of the grave?
