Charles Mott was my uncle. His mother, Ionia Goodman, died soon after his birth and he was adopted by his fathers brother. They emigrated from England. I would like to know about his family and to make contact with his children or grandchildren.

Hi,
Welcome to RootsChat
What was the name of the Uncle and his wife ? There is a border crossing Canada to the USA 19 th May 1921 for an Ernest Mott aged 36 years - carpenter with a wife Annie aged 36 years and 2 children Charles aged 9 years 10 months and Hazel to years 6 months. Father of Ernest was Charles Mott, 51 Kingston Road, Middlesex. They were going to Detroit.
Family had travelled Liverpool to Quebec arriving 19 May 1921.
Would those names ring any bells ?

There's a birth on FreeBMD in Q1 1913, Wandsworth for
Charles A R Mott, mother's maiden name Goodman
and a marriage in Q1 1910 in Wandsworth between
Lewis Augustine Mott
and
Julie Ionie Goodman (although elsewhere that's given as Juliet Ione Goodman b. 1892, Hendon)
Ring any bells?

1940 - 18345 Southfield, Oakland, Michigan. Mis-transcribed as Matt.
Ernest Matt 55 Sub-Contractor.
Annie Matt 55
Charles Matt 28 Factory Worker.
Hazel Matt 21 Attendant.
Jean Matt 16
Richard Matt 60 No Occupation Given.
Maybe not the correct family - birth looks more like 1911 - Windsor - 2c 841

HiSandra
Not sure which uncle but probably either George W Mott b 1871, Francis Owen Mott b 1875 or Charles alphonso Mott b 1877 m Ann Triblock.
I'm unsure when they emigrated. Another of the siblings, Augustus G Mott emigrated to Australia.
Many thanks

Could be this Francis Owen Mott but in 1928 he would have been aged 53 not 55. If in transit is there any way of knowing where he was going?
Thanks

Not sure what records you might find for Charles Mott on the IOM - presuming the family stayed there of course.
