Amanda, found some more info…
Marriage Record
Benjamin Helland to Hannah Selveson
Dec. 15, 1876
Ogle Co., IL
This was only hit for years 1851-1900 in all of Illinois
Hannah used initial "S" in 1910 Census
Is “Helland” a variation for “Holland” or just error?
When I looked at actual image could be “e “or could be “o”.
But for marriage and census record to be a consistent error, would be rare.
But then look at Hannah’s maiden name variation?!
1880 Census Lee Co., Alto, IL
Benjamin Helland 36 <1844> b. Nor F/M: Nor Farmer
Hannah Helland 27 <1853> b. Nor F/M: Nor
Cyrus 3 IL
George 3 mos IL
1880 Census La Salle Co., Miller, IL
Torkel Salvenson 66 <1814> b. Nor F/M: Nor Farm Laborer
Serena Salvenson 52 <1828> b. Nor F/M: Nor
Many other neighboring families from Norway.
1880 census is on line at

You could search the above areas for other families which may be of interest to you.

Hello
the Norwegians had very different naming practices that we are used to. If you are wanting to track this family backwards to Norway then this list is one you want to join
http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/NOR/NORWAY.html
Post the information you have plus what Kathy and Markus have posted here for you and keep your fingers crossed. This list recently traced a Torgerson family back to the mid 1700's
Good luck

Helland is a farm-name in Norway, that would probably be where the name comes from.
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebFront.exe?slag=vis&tekst=meldingar&spraak=e - is not working right now, but has emigration records, census records, etc. (note 1865/1900 more or less complete, 1875 is not complete)
http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/folketellinger_e.aspx
-another way to search the 1865/1875/1900 censuses.
First name 'Benjamin' could be Bendek, Bender, Bendex, Bendich, Bendig - all these are present on the 1865 census.
http://www.norwayheritage.com/
- has passenger lists pre-1875 (not complete)
http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_list.asp?jo=1287 - Note Torkild and Serene Selveson (Fossard) next to a Helland family - possible relatives?
