Hi there
I will ask a moderator to move your thread to the main Australia board where it should catch the eyes of more RChatters. In the meantime, perhaps you could let us all know a tad more about your V.
Was QUICK the likely surname that she was known by, at the time of her death (1946-1950) , if not, what would be her likely surname at that time?
Do you have her parents names? These are often included in the indexes
Which state or territory of Australia did she live in? There's eight different jurisdictions, each with their own BDM system. There is no "Australia" BDM central registrar.
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?board=399.0 this will take you to the Australia Resources Board, and from there to the child boards for each of the six states and two territories.
Cheers, JM

Thank you for your reply. I believe v. travelled alone to australia betwen 1946-1949. She had no connection to australia. I understand v returned to uk 8 may 1950 on maloja deceased. Unable to find when or where she travelled to or when how she died. A real mystery.

Hi
So V QUICK died some where in Australia on 8.5.1950 and the body was returned to UK for burial on the ship Maloja. ??
Do you know the names of Vs parents?

Hi
According to the passenger list Miss V S Quick age 25 arrived in London on 8th May 1950 on the Maloja. The fact she is on the passenger list indicates she was alive when the voyage commenced. I can't see any indication she was deceased on arrival but I can't see a page that summaries the numbers of passengers. This page would show if any died during the journey.

Something is not quite right here.
A passenger recorded as Miss V S Quick. Age 25, boarded the P & O ship Maloja at BOMBAY . There is nothing that I can see that suggests she died during that voyage to England. The only connection to Australia seems to be that the voyage commenced at Brisbane, Queensland.

"Deaths involving P&O passengers as well as crew members are recorded in the Nautical Reports (essentially Log Book summaries) that cover the years 1847 until the First World War and again from 1939 until 1957. They can be found at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich filed under series P&O/40. The Nautical Reports are not indexed so it is necessary to know the name of the ship and the approximate date of death before you begin your research."

You need to read the passenger ARRIVAL list which describes Miss V S QUICK, 25 years, home duties. She and many other passengers boarded the ship at Bombay. Her last country of permanent residence was England and country of intended permanent residence England. Her address in England was 92, C?, C? Grove, Camberwell.
What is your source of information that she died on the voyage?

Request on another board which includes info that V S QUICK was on the 1951 Electoral Roll living at Camberwell.
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=699194.0
Earlier electoral rolls show William Stephen QUICK and Rose QUICK living at 92, Comber House, Comber Grove, Camberwell - 3rd and 4th floors.
Cando
Edit to add earlier roll info.

Thanks Cando, that info re the 1951 Roll was posted on 15 September this year. This thread was started way after that...... perhaps the person born in 1924 is still alive, quietly leading a private life.

Thanks for that Cando. Have sent you a pm
-
Perhaps check to whom you sent that pm....I didn't receive it :)

And just to confirm, I did not receive a PM, nor was I expecting one.
I am concerned though, that any person who is actually only 90 years of age, may well still be alive, and their name has been posted on this thread.
Derbs, could you please confirm that you now have the actual details of the death of this person, afterall it is a No No to name living persons at RChat. As far as I can determine, the registration of the death of your person of interest has yet to be found.
Cheers, JM

Hi Derbs,
I have edited your thread as it looks like this lady is very much alive. I had been watching the thread to see your reply before editing to see if you could confirm the details.

Sarah
