I have the following family on 1871 census living in Shotton, Easington but cannot locate them anywhere after this. I wondered if they might have emigrated. Can anyone help me find them?
William Parkinson, head, 26, coalminer, born Walker, Northumberland
Ann Parkinson, wife, 34, born Washington, Durham
George W Parkinson, son, 3, born Shotton, Durham
Edward Parkinson, son, 1, born Shotton, Durham
Thanks!

Thanks for this, Rosie99. He could well be the Edward that was the baby in 1871. I wonder where he might have been up until 1901...
I've had another look at census data and there's an Edward Parkinson of about the right age in Durham Union Workhouse in 1881, but haven't found brother George there to add weight to the possibility that this is our Edward. Will re-check death details in case George was no longer alive in 1881. I wonder what happened to parents Ann and William. Perhaps emigration is still a possibility, with Edward returning to Co Durham in adulthood.
Thanks again,
Foffie

A couple of tips!
Posting a link to an Ancestry page will only work for those people who have an Ancestry subscription!
And, RootsChat has a tool to help with those long links!
At the bottom of ANY RootcChat page, under "Your Tools" you will find "ShrinkLink".
Paste your long URL in there and you get a shortened version to copy into your post.
I have done it with yours and generated: http://www.rootschat.com/links/01a4z/
Finally, because of potential breaches of copyright laws, you are supposed to copy out the information by typing it yourself?! ;D

Many thanks, Vera. This gives me something fairly positive to work with. I had an idea there might have been a Willington connection and this confirms it. Appreciate your help :)

Thanks for the tips. I was aware that only those with Ancestry sub could see links. I load them (when I'm able) just in case and for others to see if they wish. I will look at your tips for shortening the link. Thanks for doing that.
I did transcribe the links also. Is that the best way to post on Roots chat?

Hope you get some leads. There is a George Parkinson who boards through the census possibly to 1911 when he marries a woman, previously married, named Savage.

Copyright law is very tricky - and RootsChat doesn't have any money to fight legal cases!
So, here's a short guide!!
It's the images that are copyright, and the transcriptions on fee-paying websites like Ancestry, FindMyPast, Genes, etc.
But the information on those images is not copyright?!
So, as long as you type it out yourself, then you're not breaking copyright!
And that's RC's guidelines say to copy it out yourself. QED!

Got it will transcribe in future.
