Title: Great Grandfather FLAVELL - profession?

Good afternoon,
I'm struggling to make out the rank or profession of my great grandfather, as noted on my nan's birth certificate (attached).  Can anybody assist? 
Thank you for taking the time to read my post and I look forward to any replies/suggestions.

With such a tiny scan, it's almost impossible to read?

Also, RootsChat does not allow the posting of a whole certificate!
I am sure it will be removed shortly.

What you CAN do is to post a snippet of the relevant part of the certificate?
