Hi,
I'm hoping someone will be able to help me. I'm hoping to apply for an British army record of my deceased Grandfather but do not know his Soldier number. Is there anyway of finding out this information.
Also I don't know if you can but is there any information you can get from a photo of his uniform.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Hi
His Service Records would still be held by the Ministry of Defence. If he died within the last 25 years you would need permission from next of kin to obtain full information. The link below has information about applying for a copy of his record. If he married or had children whilst serving then the relevant certificate may include his Service Number but from what I have read if you don't know his number then his full name and date of birth should be sufficient.

You also need a death certificate.

I would suggest he is in the Royal Signals though the cap badge does appear to be slightly obscured.
interesting site here, www.royjonesroyalsignals.co.uk you may even find his troop photo.

Thank you for the website I shall have a look. What I do know while he was in the army was that he did some kind of parachuting.

Royal Signals. National Service?

That door he is standing in front of could be identified. It looks like the sort of door to a headquarters building. Very substantial. Very scuffed at the bottom.

Definitely Royal Signals. pre 1961. Absence of gaiters with that uniform. Very smart. Ossifer material. Ha Ha. Ho. ;D
