Hi,
I am trying to find out more about my 4 x grt grandmother, Ann Patchcote :)
I have found a mar cert,
England, Select Marriages, 1538–1973 about Ann Widow Patchcote
Name: Ann Widow Patchcote
Gender: Female
Marriage Date: 17 Jan 1784
Marriage Place: Minster, Kent, England
Spouse: Jno. Bastard
FHL Film Number: 1751981
Reference ID: item 2.
My 4x grt grandfather was John Bastard.
I was going along the lines that Patchcote was Ann's maiden name - so when I saw it saying Widow on this cert - I was surprised. I have looked further for her maiden name, and her parents names - but have been unable to.
Any advise would be gratefully appreciated.
Kindest,

Have you looked for a male Patchcote marriage to an Ann?
Do you have any clue as to Ann's birthyear which could help in finding a likely first marriage year?
-
This is a bit weird - 2 Ann Patchcote's both with Widow as a second name

There is a baptism at Minster, Isle of Sheppey, for a John Patchcoat dated 11 March 1753, the son of Nicholas and Ann. Later in the same Parish is the burial of John Patchcourt (a good young man) on 6 May 1782. For information a Nicholas Patchcoat (Rigger) was buried at Minster on 28 October 1756.
There is a marriage on Family Search between John Patchcult (or Patchatt) and Ann Andrews at Newington next Sittingbourne dated 22/24 September 1778.

All the variations of Patchco** are as found transcribed! ???
Hope this may be of some help. ???

Hi,
I have an approx dob as 1759 for Ann.
I have her marrying John Bastard 17 Jan 1784 in Sheppy - so age approx 31 at that point.
I have her burial as 13 Apr 1802 in Minster.
Ann and John had issue - John b 1784 d 1789. William 1785. Sophia 1787. John 1789 d. 1845. Ann 1791. Thomas 1796 d. 1881. Elizabeth Canham Bastard b. 1800 (I don't know if this middle name of Canham of Elizabeth is significant)
But the info from Tony and Carole could be possible - so going to work following those links.
Thank you for your help and support - so appreciated.

Hi,
I agree with Carole...it's very weird 2 Ann/e Patchcote/Patchcoat (variations in spelling) but both with middle name of Widow.
I was not aware of this before - so I was just linking onto the 1784 marriage to Jno Bastard - and taking it as John.
Who this Walter Winter is, for the marriage of 1757 is, I don't know - but marriage I think is too early.
But the family at this period in time, seem to be in Minster/Sheerness - I think Sittingbourne is too far away at this time - it's near Sittingbourne that has the marriage to John Patchcult.

The earlier marriage (1757) of Anne Patchcoat Widow was by Licence. The Allegation and Bond may give you a clue as to her age however, as she was a widow, this is probably not the case. ??? I think, it is more than likely, she was the relict of Nicholas Patchcoat who died in 1756; they in all probability being the parents of John Patchcoat. ??? Walter Winter was a Mariner serving on HMS Hazard.
Two burials can be found at Minster as follows:-
1802 Apr 13 Ann Bastard aged 43 Mrs, of Blue Town
1808 March 31 John Bastard aged 53
For what it is worth there is a baptism at Newington next Sittingbourne, ???
1759 Oct 25 Ann d/o William & Ann Andrews
More food for thought,
Tony :)

Hi Tony,
Yes, those two deaths, of Ann 1802 and John Bastard 1808 are the deaths that I have been going by.
-
This is the marriage of John Bastard's parents
Name: William Bastard
Gender: Male
Marriage Date: 9 Apr 1750
Marriage Place: Saint Nicholas,,Kent,England
Spouse: Elizabeth Mezzen
FHL Film Number: 0992530, 0992531-32
William is 'believed' to have been born in Gerston, Devon abt 1723.
parents of William or Elizabeth Mezzen unknown.
This will be a search on another board, due to location.

If you want to see the marriage you can visit the MedwayArc site.

Then you have work a bit but if you get to the set of Images for St Nicholas, Rochester Marriages it will be on image .....391jpg.
Sorry meant to add baptism for John can be found as well ......420jpg.

Newington next Sittingbourne PRs are not complete at Canterbury Cathedral Archives but I found the marriage on the BTs. The detail of which is below,
1778 November 24 John Patchcutt of the Parish of Sheerness (in Sheppey) and Ann Andrews of this Parish by Banns.
The marriage found on Family Search, I assume, was the Banns!
I believe this helps. ;D
