Title: Inquest
Post by: 8859 on Thursday 18 September 14 14:09 BST (UK)
Does anyone know how easy it would be to get a copy of a coroners inquest held on 14th October 1914.

Thanks in anticipation

I think most of them were not kept
You may find a full report (as I have many times) in a local newspaper

Individual Coroners decide what happens to the papers very many of them were destroyed by the coroner anyway, hence there are regional variations in survival. It is a simple enough matter to enquire at the appropriate county record office, which will almost certainly know what is available and where it is.
Under the Home Office Circular 250/1967, a schedule of destruction of coroners records is laid down. While they are within the definition of public records and open to the public after 75 years many will not have survived those 75 years. Once 15 years old the records can be weeded,' that is destroyed or sampled by the individual coroner concerned. A newspaper report is the best bet.

Hi

I've also found a few detailed reports on coroners' reports in local newspapers.  We do have some surviving coroners reports and connected papers here, but the newspapers are just as detailed.

Have you looked at the British Library Newspaper Archive?  There are lots of local papers including some Manchester ones.  You can search for free and see a small excerpt and you can join for a few days or a week for a few pounds.

Good hunting.
