Title: Sydney Charles Grain,
Post by: kipmert on Sunday 14 September 14 22:56 BST (UK)
my great grandfather was born Sydney Charles Grain,  dob. 6 march 1894 northfleet kent to parents maria perks and thomas richard grain,   married  eveline dorothy mills (aka dorothy evelyn)  25 july 1914 gravesend kent. They had 2 children elfreda and lionel.  Sydney is listed on elfredas marriage cert 3 dec 1938 as father deceased, but on lionels marriage cert 22 dec 1936 lionel has listed his uncle george as his father,  on 27 march 1937, dorothy married james mcguire.  on lionels death cert 9 july, 1976, sydney is again listed as father.  i cant find Sydney Charles Grain, death cert.  any ideas

I thought he may have been a seaman and possibly died at sea

Last child was born 1917 - before the end of WW1.  Sydney was old enough to have served in WW1 but there is no medal roll index card for him and no entry on the cwgc website

Hi carol

I couldnt find any military info either,  i do know that at some point he worked backstage theatre.  also apparently he cheated on his wife and was disowned by the family, he left the area with his new partner, i havent found any marriage though
