Still seeking my great-granny, Sarah Ann Marshall, born 1862 in Manchester; the only possibility is she could have been a maid with the Skelmerdine family in Nelson Street. What options are available now? Suggestions welcome.
Thanks, Jos.

If this is the right one then in 1871 she was with her family at 16 Gaylor Street Manchester
Charlotte L Marshall abt 1859 Manchester, Lancashire, England Daughter Manchester Lancashire
Elizabeth F Marshall abt 1867 Manchester, Lancashire, England Daughter Manchester Lancashire
Henry Marshall abt 1832 Manchester, Lancashire, England Head Manchester Lancashire
John Henry Marshall abt 1865 Manchester, Lancashire, England Son Manchester Lancashire
Mary Ann Marshall abt 1838 Nottinghamshire, England Wife Manchester Lancashire
Mary E Marshall abt 1869 Manchester, Lancashire, England Daughter Manchester Lancashire
Sarah Ann Marshall abt 1862 Manchester, Lancashire, England Daughter Manchester Lancashire
and in 1881 they were still there
Annie Marshall abt 1873 Manchestr Daughter 16 Gaylor St, Manchester, Lancashire, England
Bertha Marshall abt 1876 Manchestr Daughter 16 Gaylor St, Manchester, Lancashire, England
Edith Marshall abt 1876 Manchestr Daughter 16 Gaylor St, Manchester, Lancashire, England
Elizabeth Marshall abt 1868 Manchester Daughter 16 Gaylor St, Manchester, Lancashire, England
Henry Marshall abt 1831 Manchester Head 16 Gaylor St, Manchester, Lancashire, England
Henry Marshall abt 1866 Manchester Son 16 Gaylor St, Manchester, Lancashire, England
Mary A. Marshall abt 1838 Nottinghamshire, England Wife 16 Gaylor St, Manchester, Lancashire, England
Mary E. Marshall abt 1870 Manchester Daughter 16 Gaylor St, Manchester, Lancashire, England
Sarah A. Marshall abt 1863 Manchester Daughter 16 Gaylor St, Manchester, Lancashire, England
William Marshall abt 1880 Manchestr Son 16 Gaylor St, Manchester, Lancashire, England
Then there is the Sarah who is with the Skelmerdine family - it is possible for her to have been recorded at both addresses if she happened to be at work when then enumerator called there and then at home when one called there. If you had more details of her family you could confirm this.

Hi Gillj,
Thank you so much for this. I would like to think this was great-granny's family; the problem is, her parents (or at very least her mother) were Welsh. I had wondered whether the 1881 entry was wrong, and it should be North Wales rather than Nottinghamshire! But now you have confirmed it for me with the 1871 entry, they can't both be wrong. The only possibility is that she is the daughter of Henry's first wife who could have died, I will check BMD. The maid at the Skelmerdine home could perhaps be an orphan of Welsh parents.
Thanks again. Cheers, Josephine.

Hi Iria,
Thank you so much for your help. This could be promising because I had always heard (as a small child, on rare trips to England to see my grandmother), that Sarah's father had been a POLICEMAN! Sometimes the enumerators did make mistakes as regards place of birth, this may be one. I will definitely check it out. Thanks again. Cheers, Jos.
