Title: Boylans in Coatbridge
Post by: ELMurphy on Friday 12 September 14 14:33 BST (UK)
I have Francis and Catherine Boylan from Co Monaghan in the 1891 census in Coatbridge aged 26 and 28. They have kids - some don't make it. Those that do are Catherine b 1892, Patrick b1894 and Francis b 1896.  Then they disappear until Catherine jnr married Ardle Hanratty in 1921. What happens the rest of them i can't figure out. On Catherine jnr marriage cert her Mother is described as deceased but no sign of a death cert. Any ideas?

Yes both Francis Boylan, ironworker and Catherine McMahon Boylan are indicated as living on the 1921 marriage cert although McMahon is spelled McMann.

Can you confirm which is correct.

Well spotted scotmum and apologies. Yes her parents are alive when she gets married to Ardle Hanratty on 21 Nov 1921 but on Catherine Hanratty death cert on 13 Apr 1930 her mother Catherine Boylan was McMann is described as deceased.

Have you ruled out the Catherine who died in Hamilton in 1928?

I have ruled her out. She was married to Martin Boylan and is the daughter of the Dunn family.

May be a long shot, but I have a burial of a Patrick Francis Boylan from Dykes Land, Coatbridge on 23/4/1899. The age given is 1. But ive found the entires in the lair book can be inaccurate.

Oh yes! That's one of my Boylans! They had a Patrick Francis died in 1899 aged 10 months and the address was 4 Dykes land. ....They also had Mary who died in 1890 at 5 months, a Francis who was a twin to Patrick and that Francis died aged 7 months in 1895. They had a son then in 1896 and called him Francis too. So 3 that died were Patrick Francis, Mary and twin Francis, 3 that survived as far as I can see were Catherine jnr, twin Patrick and Francis.

Chris5856, can I ask - what is a lair book ? Also, is that burial record linked to a certain church? Thanks
