The crown resembles the Russian Imperial crown with the sphere and cross, it has obviousley held a lot of stones in its prior life.
The eight pointed star with the inner eight smaller points is difficult to locate in any googling.
very interesting though, is it silver? any marks on the rear?

Hi Niikib,
I would say its most likely a Victorian diamond star brooch. Based on the look it would have held a number of stones and also the Victorians tended to design brooches on combined stars of gold and silver.
Hope this is of some help.

Stuart

I agree it is based on the sunburst design which was favoured by HM Queen Mary, I thought with the addition of the crown that it might have been some kind of Order, i.e DSO, OBE but the fact it had lots of stones made me think otherwise, for something to be so bedecked with stones one would expect some kind of hallmarking on the metal. intrigueing.
