Hello.
Basically I have hit a brick wall regarding research for Samuel BLOWER born c.1832.
I have found him in the 1861, '71, '81 and '91 census. Living with his wife, Janet/Janette and children in Manchester in the 1861 and 1871 census. In the 1881 and 1891 census he is recorded on a vessel/barge. On these census his area of birth changes on each one ranging from Dudley in Staffordshire in 1861, Manchester in Lancashire in 1871, Trent Moor, Staffordshire in 1881 (I have found nothing of this area), Trenttham in Staffordshire in 1891 and Stone, Staffordshire on his prison record in Bell Vue Gaol in Manchester in 1863.
All I am looking for is beyond Samuel within the Blower name. On his marriage certificate with Janet BRUCE in 1853 he is a widower and his father is a Thomas BLOWER a boatman. Other than this I can find nothing. Maybe a different spelling of the surname? But I have tried numerous ways of spelling it.
I hope some of you can lead me into different avenues of research regarding this surname and names mentioned.
Many Thanks.

Have you tried loking at the Lancashire Online Parish Clerks website?
http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Search/indexp.html
I clicked onto search whole county, entered Blower into surname box.
[Noticed a few 'boatman entries']

As he was a (quite young) widower on his marriage to Janet Bruce, that would suggest a first marriage between around 1848-1852.
There's an interesting one on Cheshire BMDs for Samuel Blore aka Samuel Johnson to Elizabeth Hibbert, at Stockport St Mary's church in 1849.
The corresponding index entry on Family search gives groom's name as Samuel Blore but his father's name as Thomas Johnson
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F7KH-8QY
If this is your man, he may be listed as Johnson in earlier records. Can't find an online source of Stockport parish registers to check if Samuel Blore/Johnson is a waterman unfortunately

Samuel blower was my great, great, grandfather, he was a boatman on a flatboat on bridgewater canal. The boat was The John and was based at dukes yard. His son Robert was also a boatman but went to work in the Manchester ship canal warehouse in 1901. He married a Maria Mitchell 26 th Dec 1882 they had 6 children . Janet born 1883 married Albert foley. They had 4 daughters. The youngest Sarah, born 29th Feb 1912 was my mother.
Have many certificates. Will help in any way.
Only joined site today.do not know my way around it yet.

Hi and welcome Sheila. :)
You do of course appreciate that this thread is 2years old.
A reply may sometimes take some time as others have moved on to other searches.
Just hope you enjoy your time here, any problems/help just sing out.

Hi Sheila. Nice to hear from you. Thanks for the reply.
Robert Blower was my great great grandad, his son, William Henry Blower b. 1886 d. 1941 was my great grandad (Janet's brother). William had 13 children making his eldest daughter Elizabeth Blower my nanna. This making you my dad's second cousin.
I found quite abit out about the Blower's but hit a brickwall regarding Samuel. Many people lead to a Samuel Blower b. 1829, married Stockport c. 1853 and died 1897 in Newton (Newton Heath). This is not him so I found out. I couldn't find his son Robert until I spelt the surname as Blore. Samuel's address on Robert's birth cert and the 1861 census is 37 Lombard Street, Deansgate and the surname is spelt Blore on the birth cert. Even Samuel's prison record is Blore, same address and has his year of birth down as 1832. Some of Samuel's daughters surnames are also spelt this way but the use of Blower pops up in other records. I believe 'our' Samuel died in 1900 in Salford and Blore is down on his record.
What records do you have?

Hello Wayne,
I had never heard of the site and came across your message by accident when on the I pad.. I also had trouble searching Samuel. He was born in many different places. I have copies of some census records and also some marriage and birth certificates. I will sort them out for you. Is there any way of printing and sending them to you, or will it be attachments? I am not too bad on the computer, We have only had this computer a week so it’s all new. I will do you a family tree so that it all makes sense. Was your Nana known as Lizzie when younger?
Bye for now,
Message sent to me in error. New members are unable to reply to pm's until they have made a couple of posts ;)
Brian, we do check that all members email are working so it is very much still worth replying to the posts.

Sarah

Hi Sheila,
I am a little concerned that you may have published names, phone numbers, and email details of living people in the attached image. If you wish to pass this sort of information on then you are better to do this by a personal message.

Hello Sarah,
I must admit I find the site a bit confusing. However, I only intend using it for a short while to help with Samuel Blower. The attachments were census records, no emails or phone numbers were on them. No one still living .
I thought I could not send attachments on a personal message.

Hi Sheila,
If you use the toolbar at the bottom of the photograph and move it to the right I can see the names, emails, home address and phone number of about 8 people ??? This information is publicly viewable to anyone who looks.
No you can not send images/attachments via personal message.
Regards
Sarah

Sarah,
I cannot find the toolbar never mind the information. I am in contact with the person about Samuel Blower without using the site. A couple of days and I will have finished and will leave the site. I cannot cope.

Sheila:
The person who you want the information to go to, have they an e mail address?
The idea being that this information (which includes personal information) could be sent by e mail!
Once this information has been exchanged why not come back here to advise us what you have found.
[As Sarah has made it quite clear, this site has a policy of not allowing information on anyone who is still living/personal e mail addresses will be deleted]

I am sorry but I have had to remove the image you had posted because it contains too much personal information from a bunch of folks living in and around Bristol.

Sarah,
I really do not know what has happened. The images I have sent have only been 1861 and 1881 census ones. I have never mentioned the fact on the site that I live near Bristol. Not a phone number, email, or any address.
We have had this computer for 2 weeks, and have had phone calls about it from unknown people. Needless to say, we have not answered them.
I am now in touch with wayneh 83 by email. I think the best thing to do would unsubscribe from the site and if you could delete all the posts.
Would that help. Sheila Tyrer

Sheila,
You had published an image on RootsChat, the image contained details of a Census but also the names, home address, email and phone number of around 8 different people living in and around the Bristol area.
There was no mention of your connection to Bristol.
Before I removed the image I replied to your topic to check the details with you as they may have been historic addresses ?, but after seeing that the phone numbers were modern day telephone numbers I have today removed the image to protect the folk detailed in the image.
The image has now been removed.

Do you know there is a family history society for Blores of various spellings including Blower? cb
