Hi guys, I know this is probably a longshot, but I cant get to the Record Office til later in the week and Im impatient!
My husband's father (Bernard Meakin bn 1928 Coalville ) was illegitimate (and his birth wasnt registered til 1973). His mother - Doris Amy Meakin (bn 1902, Nottingham, by 1911 lived in Coalville) - is named as such on Bernard's birth certificate. We know Doris ultimately ended up with Benjamin Charles Palmer and my husband thought they were married. I cannot find a marriage record for Palmer/Meakin.
However I have just found a marriage record for Benjamin Charles Palmer to Doris A Slattery in Coalville in 1956. What I want to know is could this have been Doris Meakin with a different name?
If anyone has access to this record at all, I wanted to know both of their ages, occupation, father's name and occupation. If no-one does then I shall be spending some time with the microfiches at the Leicestershire Record Office.
Thanks!

Poor Doris. But I guess its nice that she married despite having an illegitimate son and they looked after him.
She wasnt with Ben Palmer for long after marriage either as he died in 1961.
Thanks again for all of that.

She didn't have a lot of luck with husbands then :'(

No. And goodness only knows who her son's father was. I may have to have a look through newspapers to see if shemaybe took him to court for child support but I'm not holding out much hope.
