Hi
I have a piece of paper upon which amongst other things it says Joseph 1745 Cloughmills (owner of fair hills there)
I suspect that joseph might be joseph loughridge
Is cloughmills the same as clough or a different place and what is Fair Hills ?
Thanks for clues

Hi,
I believe that CLOGHMILLS is a townland in the district of Ballymoney in Co. Antrim but Clough is in Co. Down. Sorry, I can find no reference to Fair Hills near either of these places although today there is a Fair Hills shopping centre in the town of Ballymena.
Regards

The Ballymena shopping centre is Fairhill. "1831AD Fairhill market was built by William Adair."

I missed Fair Hills altogether.
In 1832 no loughridge, indeed no Joseph in Killead civil parish Co Antrim which is where I thought Cloughmills was.
http://www.irishgenealogyhub.com/antrim/tithe-applotments/killagan-parish.php#L the about 1862
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index has some 44 references for Loughridge in Co Antrim many are tenants of Loughridges. The importance of this website as a substitute for a census is considerable, so many would list these 1862 homesteads as likely relatives areas they reduce down to these civil parishes

However from http://www.failteromhat.com/military/antrimrga.php. Ireland's Royal Garrison Artillery. The index contains entries sorted by surname, first name. Each item in the index points to the class and piece number. Index is created records dated 1872 - 1915. The original documents are at the Public Records Office, Ruskin Avenue, Kew, Surrey and are in class WO96. Originals provide more information than the index.

ie a visit to Kew is needed
I singled out a Thomas who died in 1956 of possible interest to you as his will includes the word Hill in the address See Proni wills section
http://applications.proni.gov.uk/DCAL_PRONI_WillsCalendar/WillsSearch.aspx
the entry reads
Loughridge Thomas of The Hill Ballyveely Pharis P.O. Ballymoney county Antrim farmer died 22 May 1956 Probate Belfast 4 February to Adam Loughridge reformed presbyterian minister. Probate 1957
Streetchecker gives
Ballyveely Road in Pharis is in the Causeway Coast and Glens region of Northern Ireland. The postcode is within the Knockaholet ward/electoral division, which is in the constituency of North Antrim. This page lists information for the address Ballyveely Road, Pharis, Ballymoney, Northern Ireland, BT53 8JX, and the neighbourhood in which it resides.
I am not good at Co Antrim so lets hope more help arrives
Good luck onwards
