Hi. I am trying to find the date of death for James Viggers born in 1840 - not sure where, but he married Mary Tasker Sept 1858. In Sept 1877 Mary married Alfred Turner. I can't find any information as to what happened to James. Also it appears that Alfred and Mary went to Marshall, West Virginia as they are recorded there in 1900. I have tried to find them on passenger lists but am struggling as I am not sure even where they would have sailed from. Not much to go on and a very long shot but can anyone help please.

Hi, think this is the family in 1891 - possibly including Mary's mother Anne.
Class: RG12; Piece: 1184; Folio: 58; Page: 2;
Foundry Street, Neithorpe, Banbury
Alfred Turner 60
Mary Turner 52
Anne Tasker 80
Charles Viggers 23
Frederick Turner 12
The household next door is headed by 58 year old widow Lydia Viggers.
There is also an immigration record of a Mary Turner emigrating to USA on 4 August 1892 from Liverpool to Boston on board the Pavonia. She is listed as being 54 (born 1839) as described as wife.

Just looking for Mary Turner in 1901 to confirm that she emigrated in 1892 as per post above when I came across this. A group of nuns in Selly Hill, Northfield, Worcestershire.
Only reason I wondered is that there is a Mary Turner of the right age born Banbury and also a Sarah Tasker born Banbury which made me think.
Below is only a short extract from a very long list!
Class: RG13; Piece: 2807; Folio: 212; Page: 54
Genevieve Dupins 88
Hannah Young 78
Sarah Tasker 68
Mary J Johnson 62
Mary Turner 65
Mary E Painton 68

Hi, as Sandra says it appears that the Alfred Turner & Mary née Tasker formerly Viggers living in Neithorpe in 1881 (details below) are probably not the same couple as living in Marshall, West Virginia in 1880 as they are unlikely to have returned by 1881.
This is the 1881 census record of Mary and Alfred still living in Foundry Street. Incidentally this time the household next door is headed by a Thomas Viggers.
Class: RG11; Piece: 1529; Folio: 64; Page: 2
Alfred Turner 42
Mary Turner 42
William A. Turner 18
Eliza Turner 13
Henrietta Turner 10
Frederick Turner 2
Charles Viggers 13
Mark Viggers 10
Amelia Mascord 2
Where did your info about the Turners in Marshall come from originally?

Don't think that is the correct Mary Turner, looking at the other info on the passenger manifest ???
Travelling on a Boston Passenger List - Mary Turner aged 54 years - wife - was travelling with James Turner - husband -- aged 63 years from Cheshire - occupation :- labourer - going to Rhode Island.
Also travelling Herbert Turner aged 17 years (hatter) and Polly Turner 15 years (spinner)
This is part of that family in 1900 Lincoln, Providence, Rhode Island
James Turner 68 Born Eng. Immigrated 1892.
Mary Turner 63 Born Eng. Immigrated 1892.
Herbert Turner 20 Born Eng. Immigrated 1892.

So actually, if she is not the Mary Turner in Marshall nor the Mary Turner on the Pavonia she could be the Nun in 1901?

Mary Turner is a very common name, so I wouldn't jump to conclusions to her being the nun. You need to track back that group and see if a Mary Turner was there in previous censuses.

Hi, thanks everyone for all your help. I couldn't find any record of Alfred and Mary for 1881 and so incorrectly thought they were the two having gone to W Virginia. I must remember to follow each link thoroughly before assuming anything. Thanks everyone for putting me on the right track.
